which one do i buy?
my mobo is a d845ebpt2 and i'm trying to find a good chip to purchase.
on pricewatch.com i have found the following part numbers. are they different and, if so, how?
CMX512-3200
CMX512-3200C2
CMX512-3200PT
And what is xmx3200?
it is listed on both cmx512-3200c2 and cmx512-3200pt.
i believe that the best chip is the cmx512-3600c2 and it is no more expensive than the others. please correct me if i'm wrong.

CMX512-3200
-512mb
-pc3200

CMX512-3200C2
-512mb
-pc3200
-cas2

CMX512-3200PT
-512mb
-pc3200
-platinum shiny heatspreader instead of normal black

i would expect the cmx512-3200pt to also be cas2

if cmx512-3600c2 is no more than the rest, id say get that

For the price, I spent a little bit more and went with the CMX512-3500C2 RAM. It was only a little bit more when I check newegg.com
The part # without the C2 means that its only CAS2.5 though, the PT part number means that it has the Silver Heat Spreader and is also CAS2.0

3200 is the cheapest, 3200C2 is the middle of the road, and 3200PT is the "high end" version of the ram ... whether or not the silver heat spreader really makes a different or not versus the normal heat spreader really depends on how hard you push the ram

Are you sure it's not an 845PE BT2? I can't even find a "845EBPT2" on Intels' site.

If it's the "PE" are you aware that only supports up to PC2700 RAM? Unless you're buying the PC3200 for "future-proofness" you could save about $20 by getting Corsair XMS2700 RAM instead.

Check out GoogleGear, I just ordered 512MB XMS-3200C2 for $177.50 shipped, about $17 less than NewEgg. And yes, GoogleGear does have a good Reseller Rating 😉

I ordered mine a couple months back at Googlegear for about the same price Newegg is selling them. This stick of ram is just amazing 🙂.

That's official support. If you're OCing your p4, and want to run a memory divider, you can hit DDR 400 (PC 3200) easy.

Don't skimp on the RAM, buy the fastest and lowest latency stick(s) you can afford... Even if you don't find a chip you can run @ DDR 400, the springdale will support PC3200

I've bulit a lot of systems using actual Intel 845 and 845E boards. None of them had any type of OC ability in them, FSB, overvolt, dividers etc. Are you sure the actual Intel 845PE boards have a memory divider that will allow DDR400 at 133FSB? That would be a 4:6 divider and I've never heard of that at all on and Intel chipset. As far as I'm aware the only choices you have with this board are DDR266 or DDR333 depending on how you have it set in the BIOS.

Do disrespect intended, but you'll notice I said "if you are overclocking". Northwoods are so easy to overclock, it's sickening. Granted, he's using an intel board (which effectively kills my point 😀). I'm not personally aware of what dividers the Intel mobo has... Its obviously impossible for him to hit DDR400 at stock FSB.

With the way prices are, you could probably just buy some True Samsung PC2700.
