Me and two other cars were following this huge horse trailer. We were on the two lane, about one hundred feet before it expanded to two lanes, both directions. So we are cruising along and then a turn comes up. Well the horse trailer decideds that it wants to abruptly slow down. Bad idea. The little honda right behind the trailer, smashes right into the back, it was loud let me tell you. The car behind the honda then proceeded to hit the honda and successfully block the lane. I was able to veer off into the dirt and avoid the whole thing. Man it was insane, it happend in like slow motion. I called the CHP who was actually there within five minutes not. bad. Everyone seemed to be ok for the most part, and oh the horse trailer was empty. Of horses anyways. I think horse trailers and any stinking trailers for that matter need to have their own freeways.

A Ford van almost rear-ended me today. Traffic slowed from 70mph to ~40mph before an exit ramp. When I heard tires squealing I looked in the mirror and saw him swerve over onto the shoulder. When he got back behind me again he was still talking on the phone.

I highly doubt the truck+trailer has a shorter stopping distance than the "little honda", so he was following too close and not paying attention to the road in front of him. I hope he was charged with the accident. Sounds like you were the only one paying enough attention to avoid the accident.

If you weren't following too closely, you wouldn't have ended up in the dirt.

I'm really at a loss for how you blame this entire thing on TRAILERs.

I'm guessing you're a 16-22 year old male? And, the drivers of the other two cars were also young males? You suck at driving... There is no way in hell that a truck hauling a horse trailer is going to slow down so abruptly, shy of running into a wall, that a car behind it shouldn't have plenty of time to also slow down. Unless, of course, you were tailgating.

I dont know why the trailer stopped, but the 40 year old lady driving the honda was tailgaiting and hit the trailer. the 60 year old man following her was also tailgating and hit the honda. I on the other hand, an 18 year old male was following at a safe distance and therefore was able to pull of the road and avoid the entire collision. nuf said.

Even if i was a mile back, i still would have pulled into the dirt, so as not to block the traffic behind me and get around the accident at the same time, i just had to do it quicker because i was at a normal following distance and it required a quick maneuver. It was even the trailers fault, it was the crappy honda's fault for t gating.
