well, also in season 7, Earth developed a serum that is able to be taken in place of a symbiot. Tealk no longer has his symbiot. The serum is sorta like insulin taken by a diabetic, if you dont' take it when you need to, you are screwed. This has led to a few episodes. One such is a female warrior rebel jaffa race led by angelina jolie, who were all removed of their symbiots and the serum replaced.

edit: btw- tealk bangs laura croft.
Err...I think you mean Jolene Blalock, not Angelina Jolie.

asgards are much more powerful/technologically advanced than the gould/system lords not counting cheater anubis. they're just off busy with a more powerful/menacing enemy.

You really should watch the show from the beginning. Go and rent season 1. It would explain A LOT! That said, here are the basics: 😛

The Go'uld are parasites. Highly intelligent but extremely evil and corrupt. They can pass all their knowledge and memories onto their offspring which helped to give them an evolutionary advantage. They use humans as hosts because they like them best although they can and have taken other species as hosts in the past. They attach to the spinal cord and override ones brain. The hosts are basically conscious but have no control over their own body. The hosts can sometimes influence the gould however depending how strong they are. The go'uld and host can access each others thoughts and communicate. The go'uld also completely take over the human immune system and replace it with their own which is vastly superior. Between that and the fact that they use advanced healing technology they can get over 1000 years out of a single human body.

The To'kra are rebel Go'uld and don't believe in taking hosts against their will. They believe that the body should be shared and allow the hosts to take control and to speak when they choose. They are allies with Earth and they want the go'uld dead as much as we do. Their numbers are shrinking though because they are always being hunted by the go'uld and they don't live as long. The technology used by the go'uld to lengthen their life (called a sarcoughigus) is mind altering and addicting and makes them extremely aggressive. The to'kra know this and won't use it. Therefore they can only get a couple hundred years out of a human body. It is also hard for them to find a replacement host since very few people are willing to share their body with a parasite. Sam's dad is a to'kra and became one because he was terminally ill with cancer and only had a few more days to live. The symbote was able to cure it.

The Jaffa are basically genetically engineered humans designed to be warriors and to carry go'uld larva. They carry the go'uld until it is mature enough to take on a host of its own. They serve the Go'uld for many reasons, one of which is because they are taught to believe from infancy that the go'uld are gods and if they don't serve them they will be punished for all eternity. Another reason is because they rely on the go'ulds to survive. They were purposely genetically engineered to not have an immune system of their own so they need the gould?s immune system to survive.

I?d fill you in on more but I?m tired of writing. 😛

just watch it from the beginning you'll learn all the question above in the first few seasons. thats the way I got into the show I started watching form season 1 and finally caought up to the new shows just as sci-fi was getting the show, I watched about 1 ep a night so it took a few mounths to get caught up but its defentaly worth it.

a useful site is www.gateworld.net be forewarned, its full of spoliers and stuff you probably would have more fun finding out on your own. However, if you're at the point where you've seen the majority of the episodes, and need to fill in the blanks, it has a great omipedia and episode guide to help.

I just got a day job that is only 40 hours a week - so in my boredom, I've started to watch tv again for the first time in years. I went to wal-mart the other day and bought a tv. . .

So I decided to 'get into a show', and being a geek I choose stargate. . .

I need some help understanding things. . .

The Gould (spelling?) take hosts. Humans are their hosts. In their larval form they look like little dragons and they can live in water?

Larval Guaold live in a liquid environment, not sure I understand this question.

Ok I can accept that - but what is a Jaffa? Why do they have the large X on their bellies? Why do they 'serve' the Gould if their symbiot does not control them? What is the difference between the symbiot and the Gould? What is this word "Chova" that always get thrown around in arguments?

A Jaffa is like an incubator, they serve as a protection for the larva and increase the chances of a successful blending with a host when the larva matures. The symbote inside them cannot control them as its not fully mature and cannot access the brainstem. 'Chova' is a Jaffa term, derogatory, pretty serious insult.

The grey aliens - let me get this right they are the Norse gods?

The Asgard, took the image of the Norse gods, correct.

The Gould were the 'Egyptian Gods'. . .

Correct, but they also took the form of several Asian deities as well.

Who were the Olympian Gods?

It never came up, too my knowledge.

Why don't the grey aliens just obliterate the Gould if they are so powerful?

Watch the series, in Season 4, it comes out. Suffice to say, they have more pressing problems to worry about.

Why did the Gould leave earth? When the resources of a planet are exhausted, they leave. When they get bored, they leave. In Earth's case, the Egyptians rebelled against the Guaold's, who retreated through the stargate. The Egyptians then buried the gate. Since the Guaold took many humans through the gate before they left, they had plenty of hosts and no reason to return to Earth as Earth lacked the resources they needed.

Why don't the Gould just fly to earth and obliterate it? They didn't know where it was until we started going thru the gate on a regular basis.

Exactley when were the stargates built? Can they make more of them (if you destroy one)? Different gates were built at different times, best guess is actually in the millions of years old. Yes, more can obviously be made, as seen in the spinoff series Atlantis.

WHy don't all of the enslaved civilizations start by destroying their gates? It takes a lot to destroy a gate, gates have taken direct hits from meteors, survived a bath in a pool of molten rock, etc. Many civilizations have buried their gates though, which prevents matter from coming through them.

I like Stargate myself, but I think SG1 has run its course. They need to wrap up the storyline in season 9 and end the series. Atlantis still has time to live and find its footing though.
