I just got a day job that is only 40 hours a week - so in my boredom, I've started to watch tv again for the first time in years. I went to wal-mart the other day and bought a tv. . .
So I decided to 'get into a show', and being a geek I choose stargate. . .
I need some help understanding things. . .
The Gould (spelling?) take hosts. Humans are their hosts. In their larval form they look like little dragons and they can live in water?
Larval Guaold live in a liquid environment, not sure I understand this question.
Ok I can accept that - but what is a Jaffa? Why do they have the large X on their bellies? Why do they 'serve' the Gould if their symbiot does not control them? What is the difference between the symbiot and the Gould? What is this word "Chova" that always get thrown around in arguments?
A Jaffa is like an incubator, they serve as a protection for the larva and increase the chances of a successful blending with a host when the larva matures. The symbote inside them cannot control them as its not fully mature and cannot access the brainstem. 'Chova' is a Jaffa term, derogatory, pretty serious insult.
The grey aliens - let me get this right they are the Norse gods?
The Asgard, took the image of the Norse gods, correct.
The Gould were the 'Egyptian Gods'. . .
Correct, but they also took the form of several Asian deities as well.
Who were the Olympian Gods?
It never came up, too my knowledge.
Why don't the grey aliens just obliterate the Gould if they are so powerful?
Watch the series, in Season 4, it comes out. Suffice to say, they have more pressing problems to worry about.
Why did the Gould leave earth? When the resources of a planet are exhausted, they leave. When they get bored, they leave. In Earth's case, the Egyptians rebelled against the Guaold's, who retreated through the stargate. The Egyptians then buried the gate. Since the Guaold took many humans through the gate before they left, they had plenty of hosts and no reason to return to Earth as Earth lacked the resources they needed.
Why don't the Gould just fly to earth and obliterate it? They didn't know where it was until we started going thru the gate on a regular basis.
Exactley when were the stargates built? Can they make more of them (if you destroy one)? Different gates were built at different times, best guess is actually in the millions of years old. Yes, more can obviously be made, as seen in the spinoff series Atlantis.
WHy don't all of the enslaved civilizations start by destroying their gates? It takes a lot to destroy a gate, gates have taken direct hits from meteors, survived a bath in a pool of molten rock, etc. Many civilizations have buried their gates though, which prevents matter from coming through them.
I like Stargate myself, but I think SG1 has run its course. They need to wrap up the storyline in season 9 and end the series. Atlantis still has time to live and find its footing though.
