Anyone hear about a show called "heartbeat of america"?

I get a call from the "producer" of this show (really just a salesman) and this is their pitch.

William Shatner and this Show Heartbeat of america would like to interview me with the "possibility" of being put on their show. they will do a 10 minute spot about us. they will have william shatner do the narration. and they keep saying "mr shatner is doing this for FREE because he wants to help america get back on her feet after 9/11.

finally after all the giberish, here comes the bottom line.

they want me to put up $15,000.00 for production costs.

nice production costs. so i call my tv ad guy, (just a friend i don't have any TV spots) but that's what he does, matter of fact when i called him he was a bit busy because he had to finalize the spot for the local Hyatt Regency. anyway, he says, wow $15 k is a lot for production costs. you can get a great commercial for that kind of money.

hmm. anyway, it was fun to pretend that i was gonna get on tv for a while anyway. 🙂

oh btw, the reason i even have way took it seriously is because my business was in one of our local papers just about 1 month ago.

Wow, that is a serious scam.

These people who try to profit off of tragedies like 9/11 and play to the emotional side of a person make me sick.

Why do they want you again? There is a lot of information missing about you ... so...😕

it's a marketing scam.

scam isn't the right word. if i were doing 3 million per year or so, i'd probably invest in something like this. it would be a 10 to 15 minute marketing spot hosted by William Shatner (not sure i'd use shatner) and i would send it to potential clients.

I might even digitize it and stream it and put it on my website.

but i don't gross 3 mill. $15k is way out of my league and budget for advertising. most of my advertising is word of mouth and referrals.

Your right, it is VERY wrong of them to try and use 9/11 tragedy. 🙁

You'd think that scam would be a lot easier if they only asked for $1,000.

it's not a scam in the sense that they won't produce. they will. they'll make the 15 minute spot and everything. it's a scam because it's a lie. William Shatner is NOT working for free. they ARE getting their fees. They aren't doing this JUST to help small businesses. They AREN'T going to televise my spot.

besides, what would i do with a nationaly televised spot. i don't have any clients that are more than 50 miles from princeton and i'd like to keep it that way.
