Ok so I finally sold my processors I bought off ebay...

Pentium 4 3.06 w/o HSF

Ok so I bought these processors in the middle of july/august because I needed a processor for one of my systems and one of them was selling for cheap. So I tried to resell them but I got no bidders, so finally, after 2 months of attempting to sell them, I decided to just put a "buy it now" option on them, well it worked! Both sold, the one without HSF in the first week of having the buy it now option and the second one sold on the second listing w/buy it now option.

First guy I gave him a price for the S/H which was definately reasonable because it was being shipped via USPS and wasn't in a hurry.

Now this second guy was a wee bit different, after reducing the price on this listing (the one that includes a HSF) the guy prior to buying asked me if I could ship it fast. I told him I could ship it how ever quickly he wanted it and apparently he needed it asap. (If you guys read the 'fedex' thread, this was the shipment) I only found out that this guy wanted this processor shipped ASAP on my way home via checking ebay on my cellphone. So I told the guy I'll get a price estimate later that night.

So on my way home I went to Kinkos and said the package would be 1LB and I told them I'd be shipping to NY (as this would be most plausible, furthest destination) and I began picking out box sizes and asked the clerk to give me pricing ranging from Overnight to 3day shipping with different insurance addons etc. I brought the list of prices home and told the buyer how much it would cost for each shipping situation. He was rushed but obviously wasn't rushed enough to ship it overnight, and so I shipped it 2day. I told him that 2day would cost $45 (fedex said $42) and since the auction had an automatic $10 shipping price addon, the buyer made a first payment of 194 then made a second payment of $35 therefore totalling $45.

So, I leave in the wee hours of the morning so the package is the first to be shipped, I bring my own box and some packaging materials with me just in case I can use them (save money? gain space?) which it turns out I can. In the end I end up using my packaging materials and I think I used their box, everything fit nice and snug, and I believe the processor was packaged pretty decently. But here is the catch, the processor didn't cost $42 to ship like fedex said it would cost, instead I only paid $27.

So now I'm wondering, should I paypal the guy $15 back or should I just keep it?

BTW he has already left feedback and I've already left feedback, which really brings this down to a moral issue.

Keep it. Morally wrong but think about the gas and time you've used to do all of this. Remember that your time is money. Calculate what your hourly wage is then go from there.

He would have incurred the gas/time regardless.

You could keep it...I mean, you told the guy what you were charging for shipping, based on your best estimates. A lot of people on Ebay charge more for shipping than their true cost.

But refunding at least part of it would definately put the guy in a good mood. Not many people would.

Give the $15 back. It's the least you could do for selling him an overpriced used P4 (unless of course, he scams you somehow).

just because a lot a of people do it does not make it right.

he was already charging more for shipping then he was given. it would be wrong for him to keep it.

Depends on what you told the buyer, sounds to me like you agreed to have him pay for the exact upgraded shipping. I'd refund the extra money.

I would keep the $15 because apparently money is no issue to this guy. I bought a similar processor with a motherboard for less than that price more than 2 years ago.

Can't you ship a processor via Express Mail overnight for under 20 bucks? I'd issue a refund for $15.

Since you are even asking, you should send it to him and never have to think twice whether you are living life according to your own principles.

He'll see how much it cost if he looks at the tag. Then be prepared for possible last second negative feedback that you cant counter.

Someone forgot to read the thread. 😉

The guy lives in NY, I live in California, I don't believe so... Processor includes HSF as well.

I would explain it to him, and see if he wants to split it

Nothing pisses me off more than paying 10.99 for shipping and having it come one a half weeks later in media mail with something like "$1.47" stamped on the package.

Let's see, you told the FedEx people 1 lb right? Around $15 flatrate to ship 1 lb Express Mail in the US. You fail at USPS goku.

I ship via USPS, UPS or Fed Ex, Buyer pays $10 for 2 -3 business days shipping to 48 States in US. (USPS Priority mail or Fedex with tracking number)
You advertised as $10. Give him back $35.

Do whatever feels right for you.

The rest of us (experienced eBay sellers at least) have our own policies regarding rush shipping (usually with a hefty handling fee)

You fail at comprehension, it would be impossible to ship overnight/2day for $10. It was $10 if I were to ship 1st class or priority, depending on what I could get away with (fastest method).
