I finally started working out today, I worked my biceps and chest and rode the bike for about a half hour, then shot some bball for about 15 minutes.

Now I need some ideas for food I can eat that is healthy enough so as to not offset my exercising. I don't even know where to begin on this. All I eat is cereal, pb&j, and instant meals.

I'd prefer something thats easy to make. My roomates have made the kitchen a complete disaster so it makes it kinda rough...

Any suggestions?

get a george foreman grill and a rice cooker/steamer. you can cook all kinds of chicken and fish stuff on the grill, and have rice and steamed veggies.

cut fast food, fried and deep fried stuff. If you wanna get bulk eat the same amount of protein in grams as you weight in lb.
Stay away from pork and most of beef. Chicken and turkey are your friends...

For dinner this evening I had leftover Easter Turkey with peppers, onions, and mushrooms that I sprayed with olive oil cooking spray and grilled on the George Forman grill for 6 minutes. I go through a whole lot of chicken breast, minute steak, fish and turkey on a weekly basis. For quick snacks a protein drink and an apple hits the spot between meals.

i only drink 100% fruit juice

fat free skim milk

water

eat poultry, fish, some red-meat sometimes

i don't beleive in the low carb atkins diet

i limit my calorie and total fat intake daily - try to keep fat below 35-40 grams at the MOST

don't eat after 8pm

try to make a smoothie everyday (great meal replacment) - easiest way is to buy frozen strawberries (they come in 1lb bags) - fresh banana's, oj... fat free plain yogurt. put half pound strawberries, 12-16oz oj, one banana and 2 tablespoons yogurt in blender... mix... if its too thick, add a lil more oj.... thats basic formula... theres a TON of frozen fruit out there at the super market... just dont get it w/ the sauce... just plain fruit (like peaches come sliced and skinned, but frozen) - yuou can use apple juce, lemmonade, cranberry juice, waterever to substitute the oj... drinking 30-40 oz of one of those a day IS a meal

load up on veggies.... you'd b surprised if you put half as much lasgna on your plate and put veggies in where the empy space from the other half of your lasgna was how full you get

dont use real butter

read the ingrediants of stuff you buy - if its got too much post processed stuff... dont get it

get fresh fruit and vegies whenever possible

treat yourself once a week to something you like - whether its a bowl of ice cream or a big mac... do it once a week.

the goal is to burn off more calories (thru exercise and what not) then you consume in a day

The kitchen is going to be a mess w/ good cooking. No way around it. And just start cooking. That's really it. Getting olive oil, garlic, veggies and meat and cooking them will make for better meals, no matter what kind of diet you try, and will most likely give you a mild boost in energy.
Buy this and start eating mm mmm good. ANtyhing in that cookbook with rice in it is fantastic, aside from the gumbos, easy to start making. My favorite cook book, with The Joy of Cooking at a close second.

Also, if you start working on stir-frying stuff, and keep some meat and random veggies handy, you can always whip up something pretty good to eat in like 20 minutes--even us types who like to cook get lazy.

I'm all about real butter (margarine, spreads, etc.--yuck), whole milk, gettin' some fat (but you can easily control that if you want--it's really easy to check your fat and such if you start skimming labels here and there...kinda like long ingredients lists, you can start to figure out what tastes good and is good as well, and mix more of that in than the "bad" stuff), but am all about the loading up on veggies and fruits. I feel much better when I do, though I find it hard sometimes to keep up, so don't get as much as I should. With fresh or frozen fruits and some good milk, you can make some awesome smoothies--not the kind that taste like extra stuff has been added instead of milk fat, but really good ones.

Staying away from deep fried foods, counting calories, this that and the other are fine...but if you eat a lot of processed crap, just stop that. Get a bread maker (laziness again), start cooking.

99% of anything that is single-serving or packaged as such is probably something you should stay away from. If it doesn't take you around 5-10 minutes or more to make, you should reconsider. Granted, this doesn't go for everything, but usually the fastest, easiest meals are the ones with the lowest nutrition possible.

Give your roommates a beat down with your new biceps and tell them to keep the kitchen clean. You pay rent just as they do and you deserve those accomidations.
