OK, so Anandtech doesn't support anything illegal or immoral right?

We aren't allowed to talk about warez, downloading media or anything else on that could be considered illegal or immoral. I understand and agree with that. Here is my problem.

We have a ton of kiddies in OT always asking for answers to their homework. Every day there are more and more. How can this be acceptable? Never mind the fact that they are cluttering up an already packed forum, but they are cheating as well.

You take the time to lock all kinds of threads that are at least halfway entertaining, but these threads with kids begging someone to help them cheat live on.

PM links to the moderators. I hate the homework leechers too. If they legitimately try to solve the problem, I don't see a reason not to help'em out though.

I have no problem with it if they are asking HOW to solve the problem, not just please post the answer. If they actually learn from the thread, that is the point of homework right?

I guess I can understand that, but wouldn't they have learned that in class?

I had a professor in college whose accent was too thick for me to understand more than a couple of words...

Some teachers make it difficult to learn. They can not just seem to leach people at a certain level.

Others students may just sleep through class, oggle the other students in class or spend more time browsing ATOT.

Those do not deserve assistance.

The problem is telling whom is whom.

.

Then why do those students care to do homework?

They aren't. They are getting ATOT to do it for them.

I did my homework without asking anyone on an internet forum to do it for me.

ive asked a few times, but its because the internet is quick and easy. its no different than asking someone locally for help. if the person just asks for the answer, then its a problem, but if its a how-to or what-am-i-doing-wrong, then there shouldnt be a problem. actually, it should be encouraged because it is furthering learning and takes away some of the senseless drivel that gets posted in ATOT 24/7.

In the example you posted he already had the answer, "I am getting (3x-2) ^ 7 over 7. Book is showing it over 21???" He needed help on how to do it, not what the answer is. I don't see a problem with it.

There are the few who are homework leechers though. I agree PM the Mods and let them decide.

I did not have the Internet when I was doing homework:p

They need to do the homework to pass the class;

Fail the class and no more party money from mommy/daddy

I agree if you need help with homework to go ahead and post. Most people here are more than willing to help. But merely posting to get an answer is making someone else do it for you, that is unacceptable.

My teacher doesn't like me for some reason so i just shut up in that class, even when i dont understand something. So, i would see no problem (from someone elses point of view) if i posted a topic asking to explain the hw's topic in general.

I agree. I have no problem with asking for help, and I will help anyone that I can. But just asking for answers? Any chance of a mod opinion on this?

Homework threads are fine, but if you are leeching for answers, thats not cool. Sometimes, upper level courses, esp, math courses like group theory, or pde's are kinda hard to understand - If you have a crappy book and crappy professor especially.

I would rather see these little scumbag cheating pigfvckers drop out of school and become a drain on our society. Who the hell do they think they are, with their imagination and ingenuity used in an obvious attempt to succeed in getting an education that the rest of us up here on our mighty thrones will accept, An education that can and will enable and empower them to attempt to succeed in the real fvcking world and contribute to the greater good and to the comfort of their fellow man. There is no wiggle room in this issue, and it is completely void of any complexity, and these cheaters should immediately be shot along with the owners of Anandtech for allowing it to continue.:|

Chill out. Mods dont like that behaviour and it doesn't help our conversation we have going in this thread.

I read the thread and it seems that he did try the problem and got an 'answer' that differed from the answer key in the back of his book. He asked for help. The unedited version may have been different, but that is what it looks like now.

There is definitely nothing illegal, and I would say nothing immoral about it as it is now. In fact, that he asked for help is actually encouraging.
