OK people, seriously.

You need to disable geotagging on ALL your cameras, especially the cell phone.

You have no idea what kind of sick fucks are out there, looking to slit your throat. I'm pretty sure you can organize your pics by folder and you should always know exactly where you took them. The lat/long embedded into the file is totally unneeded and may get you stalked.

Obviously you are not an outdoor person who would think to utilize GPS functions the way they were meant...

I would use it to mark where places like this are:

Assuming the thread is about cell phone CAMERAS . . . 🙂 (So the thread is in the right forum.)

The problem is, many cell phone users don't fully know how to use GPS. There are bad people out there who are now using that unfettered data to determine when your house is empty and "available."

OTH, a live GPS locator on your cell phone could someday save your life.

BTW - what DSLRs have geo-tagging?

I know the Sony a55 does have it built into the camera body... I'm sure others do too. I also know the Nikons do not... they require external hardware to do gps.

I assume the real issue is that people should be diligent about scrubbing sensitive info from *anything* they post online or make available.

Hrmm... makes me think... maybe i'll write a quick program that allows you to delete specific parts of exif data from images. I could write it and open source it. Or maybe add it to my existing open source project photo sorter ( http://bonephotosorter.codeplex.com/ )

Would anyone find that helpful as a quick image scrubber to run prior to posting online?

I do agree with this... it's disturbing to think that people post GeoTagged pictures of their children in public spaces online (facebook, etc.). You know this is just another way for some pedophiles to target your children... knowing exactly where they go to play!

I think geo-tagging is overrated. If anything, it just means more tourists are gonna come to that spot and take a crappy, half-witted photo of something they saw.

I had no idea about geotagging until some friendly mod flagged something of mine on another forum. Then i went and got a firefox plugin and sure enough... all my pics i#ve been using direct from my iphone to photobucket have the coordinates of my house!
