Jeeeeez, its a shame they took so freaking long to release it.

I was waiting for the gtx560ti 2gb cards to drop in price for quite a while.

One of these cards now, and another one later looks to be my final upgrade for my system.
Just gonna wait a bit till they fall to 200$ even without rebate.

Good job XFX!

I would love to see some reviews on this card overclocked and in crossfire overclocked.

Congrats! I'm happy for you, Happy..You've finally seen the red light at the end of the tunnel. So, when is Newegg shipping it out? :sneaky:

All busting chops aside...That is a really nice price!

This card is perfect for me, with 2 of these in crossfire (eventually) and giving my cpu a little more overclock, I should be good till at least late next year with most if not all games.

It just needs to drop 24$ ,without rebate, and it meets my price bracket.

I agree. I hate rebates with a passion. And you're right, you should be good to go for a while crossfired.. You just need to upgrade to SB, then you'll really be kicking.

Haha, yes, it's quite easy to wait for the latest and greatest when you plan to have the money for it sometime in the future. Or, if you're American, you just buy it on a credit card, instead!

@Happy: why are you looking at amd cards? I thought that you loved nvidia.

I'm curious why don't go for a 460 SLI since it looks like you already have one card

Truth is, any card that meets my needs in the right price range, with good future upgradability (crossfire), and good performance is the card I love.

Then again,, if my card had 2gb of memory and I had a sli and crossfire board, I'd just grab another gtx460 and overclock it.

come on you can hold out until 28nm

what are we less than 6 months out?

In my case , why bother, 2 6870 2gb cards overclocked will max my cpu's potential.

But mabe your right............mabe they will make a card that has 2gb of memory and is as fast as 2 6870's for under 350$? But, by the time I buy a second 6870 2gb they will be very cheap, around $150.

Crossfire scaling seems good , drivers seem good, performance is as much as my cpu can handle.
I cant find a real negative in my peticular case not to buy one.

Why are you even considering that card? You already have a good card. How much of an improvement do you think you will get?

If I were you I would just save my money. If you really want to upgrade, you should consider selling that Q9550 while it still has good value and go SB. See what the 460 is capable of when driven by a powerful cpu.

1 it has 2gb of memory
2. its 95% as fast as my card overclocked
3. I have a crossfire board, so I can add another later cheap
4. I dont need a cpu yet, my cpu will drive 2 gtx460's and will play all games just fine.
5. the price is reasonable for a 2gb card compared to others.

Call me silly, but I can't see how an extra gig of memory will help a 6870? I'd opt for it if it was the same price'ish as a 1G model, but it's an extra $30. Not worth it.

So let me get this straight... You want to buy a card that is hardly any faster than what you currently have so that maybe in the future you can get a second one? You will get like zero difference now.

That's the biggest waste of money I have read in the past few months. Why not wait for that future when you actually need the extra horsepower and then just get two? Or maybe next generation is out by then? Or maybe they will be cheaper? Or so many other "maybies"...

Seriously, no sense, whatsoever.

This is a good point and I have allready considered that.
See post #12.

I'm not running into any troubles yet with games, so like always ,I wait till I do. I was more talking about the future of my rig in gerneral.

Of course your cpu will drive two GTX 460. I don't know what you mean by just fine though. You can find plenty of info on the net on how a cpu demanding game like Bad Company 2, your experience with the same single GTX 460 will be substantially slower than if it were run with a Sandy Bridge quad core. Sure it can work with two GTX 460 but it would not give you the same results. Maybe if you were to stick to games that could be maxed out by a Core 2 quad at 3.6

I agree with Qbah, complete waste of money. This is a post I could see coming from a noob but I'm surprised that you are even considering it.

No you are wrong, it will be the same, unless your running at 1280x1024.
A gtx460 is not fast enough to max BBC2 at high res.

If I ran my gtx460 @ 1080p max settings with my q9550, it would be just as fast if I was using a i5 2500k.

If I ran Metro 1333 with my q9500 @ 4.0 vs a i5 2500k and 2 gtx460's, it would be the same gaming experience, give or take a few frames.

I dont care if a i5 2500k can give me 90 fps over my q9550's 70 fps , it makes no difference to me. There are no games out there that I play, that will not run smooth on my q9550 yet, at least that I have experienced.

Try playing when you need more than 1GB, which does happen. Now assume that games will keep on, as they have in the past, using more VRAM over time. I'd pay that $30 in a heartbeat.

What I wouldn't do is replace a GTX 460 with a very nice OC with anything less than a HD 6950 or GTX 570.

Why would I want to max it out? Like you said, its not fast enough. I run it at what I think it can handle to my liking which is trying to maintain 60fps most of the time. And coming from a Q9550 myself I can tell you that it cannot maintain the same numbers. The difference isn't huge but it will probably be a lot bigger than going from a GTX 460 at 930 to a 2GB 6870.

I personally use a Q6600 and while slower than your Q9550, the 2500K is much faster for gaming in the opportunities I've gotten to use it on my friends' rigs. It's not so much that the frame rates are only a little slower with C2Q, I've found that it's slower at certain moments , particularly when there's a lot of people on a server in an an online FPS(mainly what I play). In BC2, Black Ops and Crysis 2, my frame rates start to drop considerably when there's max players in a server. I'm really hoping I can play BF3 well without upgrading my processor. I use a 6870 1GB btw.

Except that by the time you'd go to add a second 6870, 28nm will be out and one 28nm card will produce less heat, hoise, and consume less power than two 40nm 6870 cards - and will perform just as well. And If you're spending $200 now for a 6870, minus selling the gtx460 for $100 or so, then buying another 6870 later for $125 or so... that's $325 for a fairly loud crossfire setup when you could have waited for a 28nm card in about the same price as your would-be crossfire setup that performs as well with less power, heat, and noise.

I run a gtx460 @ 930 do you think I give a crap about noise, heat, or power consumption?:D I have plenty of psu and a huge windtunnel for a case. :)

But yes your point is noted and understood.
