OK not to use IO bracket?

I bought a $10 case from a local store so i could build a comp out of left overs for my brother, but the section for the IO bracket is too short. They way I have it set up now, I just bent the metal so the ports fit out the oppening.

Is it OK to use this as a permenent solution?
 
You will likely get a lot of dust and critters in through there. You can use the heavy aluminum tape that is often used for sealing ductwork and chimney flues to make a custom cover.
