Howdy,

Trying to update my Office XP install with Office SP1. If I auto update or manually d/l the SP, I get an Error Code 1328: Error applying patch to file C:\Config.Msi\PT(random 2 characters here).tmp.

The name of the TMP file has been different 3 times now. Any hints/suggestions as to what might be causing the problem here? The error message suggests I somehow modified the file.

This is not a fresh format/install of my OS (XP Pro w/ SP1) , but I did try uninstalling Office XP.

Thanks

Error Code 1328 during Office XP update:

The file is damaged (more than likely a corrupted D/L).
The file was updated with a more recent update.
There are incorrect permissions on the file. (make sure you have Admin rights)
The file is in use by another program (close down all Office programs, i.e. Office Toolbar, IE)

If you are using a Corporate version of Office XP, then the Service Pack cannot install unless you create an administrative install point.
