Poetry is fine... if he's buying clothes don't get him any trashy loose-fitting garbage that most kids wear nowadays. Get him some nice clothes from Ralph Lauren Polo or AE or whatever.

Not seeing how any of this necessarily makes the kid an "emo", just coming of age, and trying out the current trends. HOWEVER, the clothes issues...You DON'T have to give in and let him wear wierd clothing styles. Making him wear jeans and t-shirts won't make you a bad parent...
Get a leash and muzzle for him, and guide him in the right direction, instead of letting his "friends" do the guiding...

I remember the baggy pants era for LI, NY was around late '90s, early '00s. There is still that whole oversized clothing thing still going on though where I went to hs. On the other hand, people here in Chicago seem to dress normally.

His music tastes probably changed...i.e. when i was that young I started off listening to mainstream punk, wanting baggy jeans and a skateboard.

Time for him to get a job. With the money he could make he can get real cologne and buy his clothes. As for the poetry thing not many people have a skill/talent like that. Be happy he wants to get some poontang.

Make sure he works out. Buy some 15 pound pairs of dumbells. The sooner he takes advantage of his new found testosterone, the better. Also go hunting with him.
Also, look at what type of clothes he thinks are cool. Do a little conservative judging. Tight pants are NOT acceptable. Maybe a few surf shirts, some nice jeans that are dark and dont have cargo pockets in them.
Also, go to ROSS. I know it sounds retarded, but I get my "cool" clothes at ROSS for half the price (or maybe even less) than at Macy's, Utilities, etc.
As for the hair streaking, just give him a buzz. A nice short cut, nice well groomed buzz. Chicks dont like shaggy people unless they have some redeeming quality or whatever have you. Also, don't have an old fart, "I cant trust him" attitude. Its the most pissing thing in the world. Instead of blocking myspace on your router, tell him if you catch him on myspace, you will deny him internet access on his/your computer unless he is present at all times.
Because the worst thing is a parent not trusting, and doing things behind their child's back. It hurts. I know.

Axe Tsunami or whatever got me a LOT of compliments when it first came out and such... but it doesn't really do anything as a deodorant. I don't know though, I switched to one that actually works (Old Spice, I think I'm using "Arctic Rush" or something now), and it still gets me a lot of compliments, but actually keeps me dry so /shrug.
