Ok, motorcylce people, what is this?

I've seen something for the last few years and have finally really started wondering what is going on. I see these older guys riding hawgs with their headlights flashing on the highways. It's a constant flash, like once per second, so it's not just a loose wire or something. I also seriously doubt someone sits there and flicks their headlights on and off, as it's VERY consistent timing. I know I flash my brights at people if their is a cop or something by the highway, but this is different.

What are they signalling? I've seen it dozens of times in the last few years.

It's called a modular headlight or something like that, it is simply a safety feature that makes the headlight flash around with the bumps. It really catches your eyes much better in the daytime.

its a modulator. it increases the visibility of the bike.
Yup. Most of them have a little sensor that turns the modulator off at night as well. The idea is to make you stand out during the daytime......it may be slightly annoying for motorists, but at least they'll see you and are therefore less likely to run you over.
