ok...lets talk car audio/alarms/remote starters

what does it mean if my car has a flashing theft light when off, has a key fob that has an alarm button, but there is no real "alarm" feature such that when someone tried to open the door it would go off? is there any way to check if theres something under the hood thats just not connected up?

I am guessing its a GM car? The theft light means something is wrong with the factory anti-theft device. Did you have a remote start put in it?

EDIT: and no, its nothing under the hood. It would be under your dash or on your steering column.

enable it???

If its a ford your key (big fat thing) has a transponder in it. There is a little device right by where you put your key in that makes sure that your key is in the ignition. If something goes wrong with that it will shut down your fuel pump and your car will not start. Try disconnecting your battery for a half hour, then reconnect it. That should reset the factory security.

yeah enable it, they wanted me to pay a special premium to have it "work" but i haven't been able to find out what that thing is...its wierd...i have tried the disconnect thing...grounding out my system...resetting the system...computer firmware update...i got nothing. I do have a transpoder key and that works fine. The little "theft" always flashes though after i turn off my car and lock the doors yet when i pull up on a handle no horn or anything, but i can press the "horn" button on the fob and it will go off and when i lock the doors it flashes the lights and honks like its setting itself. I dunno i've talked to a few installers about it and no one has been able to answer or enable it completely and just tell me go get a real system isntead 😛

its just a horn honker. It only goes off if your door is locked and you open it.

As far as enabling it, thats a new one. I have never heard that before.
