[LATEST EDIT]
I was actually managed to boot all the way to the desktop. The "windows has recovered from serious error" showed up and further detailed showed file path leading to the following:
C:/documents and settings/ject2/local settings/temp/lo824e_appcompt.txt

Why would a file in temp directory interfere with booting or cause any harm? Is this a virus? Some other files include .xml extension. There are viruses that can preevnt from booting as the window LOADS?

I got home tonight, nothing was ever touched.

While in desktop, out of nowhere it started to lag like crazy and crash hard. The Alt+Ctrl+Del screen reports iexplorer is not responding. (When the browser is not even open, I assume this refers to the OS itself)

Then it suddenly restarted on its own. Since then I can't get past the Windows loading screen. It would crash abruptly during the windows splash screen...

If I try to go safe mode, it crashes while loading
If I run with standard configuration, it crashes while loading
If I run with 'Last known working configuration' it still crashes while loading

WTF!?!? How can I remedy this? Can I just restall windows WITHOUT fomatting? I assume that's a bad idea...

[edit]
Once every 10th tries, the Windows actually load fully to the LOG IN SCREEN. When I enter my password and press enter to 'engage' windows, it would REBOOT ABRUPTLY right after the booting sound (at least the soundcard works..)

WTF is the deal?

Do you hear the up and down whirs of a hard drive in your desktop like you do when booting up?

um, I would say check your heatsink/fan maybe the fan failed or your HS has been dislodged somehow.

Check update.

With random restarts it sounds more like a power supply problem now. What kind do you have?

I highly doubt PSU. If it were PSU related, it would reboot at totally random times. For me, I just can't get past the booting screen and occasional log-on screen. I would guess this consistent symptom indicates some sort of data corruption. Remember, what started all this was a hard data crash on desktop. I don't think power has anything to do with data... afaik

I doubt it's hardware related either, since I can go past POST/bootup screen without problems.

Keep em coming though.

If you are using XP just go to Recovery Console(an option if booted off XP cd) and follow on-screen instructions. If done properly, all info will remain intact and XP should be repaired from corruption. Maybe you have a live install linux disc around to verify it's not the PSU?
