You see what I have in my sig. It's causing my computer table to bow in the middle from the weight, plus I am getting new PC furniture, so I think it's time to go with the panel.

So, I've read all the threads on the 2405. Nice widescreen, but won't give me WS for all FPS games unless I hack them and that bothers me a little. Not concerned about needing high powered graphics cards to drive it at native rez.

However, the 2001 will give me basically the same viewing field I have today with my CRT(20" viewing area), and ALL my FPS games will fill the screen edge to edge just like today.

I am curious if the 2001 has a fast enough refresh to play FPS games, as it has been out longer than the 2405.

Now I will also use the new flat panel for business as well where I have sometimes very large data networks to project in Visio-so maybe the wide screen would make that easier? I assume I would not have to left/right scroll to see the entire diagrams?

I'm trying to decide purely on usability and technology between the two panels with all else being equal.

As an aside, if I do choose to forgo widescreen, that gives me lots of options for a big screen. Is there something out there gamers have found that's better than the Dell 2001?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated as always..........

Dont bother with the 2001FP, LCDs have a bad enough reputation for weak black levels and the 2001FP is a perfect example, I had one for awhile but got rid of it.

Im not an LCD fan but the Viewsonic listed above looks like a much better choice vs. 2001FP.

The games that you don't have to do this for far outweigh the ones that you do. What else aside from BF2 forces this?

if you're running 1600x1200 on that mitsu you might end up like me, missing the extra 150 vertical pixels when going to the 2005. i've had a 2005 for a good 8 months and i still miss them.

if you're running higher than 1600x1200 you'll really miss the extra space.

in short, go for the 2405

it's not like 1600x1200 on that screen is bad, either.

OK,

I'm ordering the 2405 based on Anandtech recommendations!!!!

that puppy is now 25% off original price. It was at 20% two weeks ago. My guess is the recent 30" availability is driving down the price. I can get it for $841 with a 4 year warranty....

as always, thanks so much for the input folks!
