OK IS THIS BAD?

ok on my rig upstairs my cooling is prety much non-existant 😛

spec.....Athlon XP 2000+ (palomino core ..0.18!) 512 DDR PC2100 ram 2x40gb hard drives which are so close u cannot get much between em, and a GF3 with a passive cooler! (it was out of a dell computer)
also 3 CD drives

so i have no case fans, a hot cpu.....2 hot hardrives......and a burning hot graphics card which im sure artifacts in 3D at stock speeds, tho the computer is for 2D work.

i do have a thermal take volcano 9 cooler and the ducting mod to go with it.......currently MBM says 45 degrees cpu and nearly 50 for the case......i have the side off the case, but air in my room doesnt circulate well, computer is near an open window too.

so this ok...or should i of died ages ago?

case sux.....room for only 2 HDD, no front fan mount, and at most an 80mm rear fan, and a single fan PSU

Newegg has free shipping on the Antec SLK3700AMB case right now, and it sounds like your system would be a good candidate for that 🙂 A quality power supply, a 120mm exhaust fan, room for the drives not to be cooking eachother, and you can add a 120mm intake fan if you like (pick a quiet one).

You could follow this advice, or you could leave this system be. The components will probably hold up fine but it just isn't a good idea to keep em that hot.

That case has a TON of good reviews and it's cheap too. I just ordered one for my test-bed dual-boot Windows XP/FreeBSD compy. There's a similar version with power supply but it has a reputation for failure. Side and top fans, with room for front and back. Just add front fans for intake, flip the side fan to intake to blow cool air right onto the CPU, and add a big exhaust fan at the back.

Start with your room temperature first. With air, your system will NEVER be cooler than ambient temperatures. If your room is cool enough, then that cold air has no choice but to get inside your case, fans or no fans (albeit fans greatly improve the natural process of air diffusion).

Like I always say when someone complains about temps on air cooling: START WITH THE ROOM TEMPERATURE.

My formula for a "normal" case temperature is: CPU around 10C greater than CASE which is around 5C greater than the room temp. So if your room temp is 30C, then your case temp should be 35C and your CPU temp 45C. Ideally, your case should be the same temp as the room if you have good air flow, but hard drives and other components generate heat which can create around a 5C difference. If you want to cool your CPU, get the room temp down first. You can put the baddest ass HSF combo on your CPU all you want, but if you're room is a furnace, that won't do a damn thing.

Oh no you don't, that case just came back in stock! I want it! 😛🙂
It looks almost like the cheaper steel version of that nice new P160 case. 120mm fans for intake and exhaust, cooled drive cages, etc.

nah too late i have decided on the antec p160, probably gonna get the sidewindow mod, sum cathodes and another 120mm fan........an probably a new psu too...... i really like the straight "designed with a ruler" lookes.....its understated.

had originally thought of a sonata....but it seems its a bit cramped...and im hereing a lot of probs with dust.....not my cuppa im afraid....even tho it does come wiht a good psu
