Ok, is this a "High Talker" or a kid prank calling

Actually, neither Mr. Craft.
It's a extraordinary young man who happens to know WHAT he needs done, just not sure HOW to do through wall speaker wiring.

Seriously, I drove to this fellow's house in Davis JUST TO SEE this client. Turns out this guy is about 12 yo and has a media server set up off the TIVO / Satellite signal in and his mom apparently bought a Kenwood HTiB system 2 or 3 years ago. MEANWHILE dude is DYING to get this going and so he called me.
< Cracked me up. I said "Oh, ok, PC as a media server and tivo for the satelitte" His sister, a college age hottie, goes "ACCCK" How do you know this stuff ??/ I said, while shooting the guy a "hey WTH" shrug, said , it's what we do. It's part of us. We know no other way. " He grinned and went off to look for the Radeon box so I could see it.
Apparently I sold them well, because there were 3 phone messages when I got home today, all from him saying in varying degree.... 'Mom said it was Ok, when can you come over ? .... "
LOL,
I love it.

I laughed about this all day today and even more when I got in an hour ago.
Future customer, maybe.

Do I have to say he has a stack of PC's, Mac's, and various peripherals, Dude does PC refurbs......
He's gonna look at my flooded Dell for me.

I get the impression that young dude, BUYS and Sells on ebay selling refurb PC's, and that the HT was a family purchase that simply been gathering dust in the garage, still in the box. He's just chomping at the bit to get it up and running.
I was not the only HT guy to have given a bid. He had alluded to that during our initial phone conversation, and then spoke a bit more directly to that as I was winding up the visit.

You're kidding, right? You had to "bid" on a job to hookup a HTiB? It's 6 speakers and a receiver. And you're bidding on a job from a 12-year old? Yeah, that sounds like it's totally worth it. Hope you didn't spend too much time on what should be a half hour job.

What part of that do you have problems with, or does your mommy cut your food up too?

I agree w/ sygyzy - your post is a big huh?😕

Let me help.....
#1. I am Mr. Craft..... pleased see username and profile for details.
#2. High Talker semi obscure Late 90's TV series episode reference.... re: "Seinfeld"
#3. A great deal of ATOT users are ALSO Craigslist user's / advertisers / etc. for their SERVICE business'. please search for multitudinous CL references contained herein.
#4. I write as I speak, as a lot of people do, and I will refer to myself in the third person if I choose to. Some people find it annoying, but, frankly Scarlett, I don't give a Rat's a$$. I don't give them grief for speling (sic) or other literary gaffes, and even if I did, if you are so dense as to need it spelled out for you, you wouldn't get the subtlety of the humor anyway.

#5.
If any of this gets you angry or pi$$ed off in any way, that's your problem to explain to yourself.. It isn't that big a deal to me.

#6. I got the job and his mother, when I spoke to her on the phone, obviously has her hands full with this very intelligent young man.

#7. Anyone else know the big problem with this sort of solicitation for business?

Well  for getting hired by a 12 year old computer wiz who needs help hooking up his HTiB. Perhaps he could teach you something.

Yes, because #1, he is one of us in spirit.
#2. He has the cajones to call several installers and despite his youth, arrange for bids and estimates.
#3. His stated purpose was "to surprise Mom". Props for that
#4. Despite being unable to enter into a contractural agreement such as this type of Home Service is defined by California Law, he was following the right steps and was only slightly perturbed when mom bade him to wait until today to decide.

He can pay me, but the contract for services is with his mother / parents and she ultimately must agree to the job.
I daresay there are some among us here who don't know of these things.

Please to see the last post regarding the legality of being hired by minors for Service Industry jobs performed in the customers home. Also, your reading comprehension sucks, because it wasn't the hooking up he was looking for, but the "Through the wall wiring." This could explain why you didn't understand what I wrote. You failed to read it thoroughly is all.
I expect to learn something new everyday. This was the first thing I realized seperates adolescent adult behaviors from the mature adult behaviors.

Your thinly veiled "burn" reminds me of an OLD bumpersticker that said....
Hire a teenager.....while they still know it all.
