Ok, is there a REGULAR Athlon XP that will run 400FSB on default voltage...

After getting shot down concerning running a mobile XP on my Chaintech nForce2 Ultra 400 mobo ( no multiplier or voltage adjustment) now I would like to find a regular XP that will run at 400Mhz FSB on default voltage. Any such thing? I know I had a Barton 2500 that would do it, but I gave that to my dad - would run flawles as a 3200+. Are there any other ones that will?

AMD makes two CPUs that will run 400FSB at default voltage...

Athlon XP 3000+ @ 2.1GHz - $115 @ MWave.com
Athlon XP 3200+ @ 2.2GHz - $132 @ MWave.com

Nah, theres more than that. Maybe I'll have to wrestle that 2500 from my dad...

Well, there's no way to know unless you buy one from the FS/FT forum from someone that guarantees 400 FSB at default voltage.

I think you'd have a better chance with one of the desktop chips to hit 200 FSB at 1.65v. While the mobiles OC well, I don't think you'll find one that can hit 200 FSB with their lower default voltage of 1.45v.

No, those are the only two that run at 400FSB from the factory. But pretty much any modern Barton/Thorton has the potential to run at 400FSB if OCed (particularly the lower-end 333FSB CPUs with low multipliers) but nothings gauranteed, of course.

The funny thing is, I have DUTC3 XP2100 here that is UNLOCKED and will run 2.2 just fine, but the mobo I have to put it on doesn't have multiplier or voltage adjustment. All I need for it to run 400Mhz bus is a stinkin' .10 volts!!! Grrr... So the only thing I can do is up the FSB and I can't get it over a 160 FSB without it getting squirrely. The mobo I'm using it on DOES have AGP/PCI lock thank goodness. The mobiles DO oc well. Rightnow I have a mobile 2500 @2.4 on my main rig....So at least I have THAT going for me...

Maybe you should consider the athlon xp mobile cpu? I have a xp2500 mobile running at 2.4ghz (12x200) using only 1.55v and the other xp2500 mobile running at 2.5ghz (12.5x200) using only 1.65v which is the standard voltage for the barton xp cpu! :)

Sorry I noticed after typing all this that you had already tried a mobile and your motherboard didn't have multiplier controls.

How the hell are doing that on 1.55v? I have to run mine at 1.825V!!!! Its stable though and I have a monster HS/F (Volcano 11+)

I tried the cpu at 2.4ghz at 1.7v and it worked well, I then reduced the voltage to see how low I could go and it's run stable at 1.55v ever since. The temp is pretty good too and it never goes over 52c even under very heavy load.

Why don't you just alter startup voltage with the wire trick?

I did a search and found that the wire trick is for multiplier not voltages.

Yikes, I don't think I want to get into that.... I guess what I can do is sell my mobile 2500, put the 2100 in my main rig and run it 2.2 or 2.3 and buy a REGULAR XP 2500 or 2600 and hope I can run it at 400FSB...
