Ok, I'm sorry, but OS X really is easier than windows. edit: maybe just "as easy"

The commercials are true. I plugged my digital camera (USB) and it asked whether I'd like to download the pictures(and where to put them) or if I wanted to set up a default action for when I hook up the camera. No drivers or anything....

You may not really care how easy it was, but it really does do what the commercails say it does.

that's what xp does... (or at least close to it). i didn't have to install drivers for any of my 2 cameras.

So that makes it easier than Windows 3.1

Windows XP does what you just explained perfectly :)

I've used XP for about 5 minutes. I don't care for it so I kept win2k. maybe it's only "as easy" then, but it can't really get much simpler :)

I counted once and I think that it was only 8 clicks all in easily laid out steps to get your pics off the camera and onto a website. can XP do that?

Some questions:

How big (MB/GB) is the install?
How much memory and/or page file is it using?

no, i don't think you have the option of using a wizard to publish them to a website initially (when you first connect the camera). however, i can do what you just described in 6 clicks (2 to open the digital camera's folder, 3 to connect to my server, and 1 to drag and drop).

there is a wizard to publish files and folders though, if that's what you're looking for. it should be on the side panel of every folder.

well, I'm still quite impressed by it. It took all of 10 seconds to connect to a windows network share, and it actually gives you a progress meter when copying files across the network (129.2mb of 3.58GB right now)....

I'm confused. Is saying that OS X is based on unix supposed to be slamming it?

How hard is it to install some software you lazy f*cks!!!

Sorry had to get that out of my system, who cares though? If you want to waste your money on a single minute saved with your digi-cam then knock yourself out. I dont see how you cant like XP, it has WAY better product and driver support than Windows 2000, and it pretty much IS 2000! You silly people, always so subjective.

Thats cause it was designed around the notion that the user is an idiot. :)

Nope. Used BSD for personal use, it was cool, didn't have much hardware support back then as now, (3 years ago). Never used MAC OS X, help retail customers used previous verisons, it was okay, pain in the butt when you had to to play with extensions when things didn't get stable. OS X from what i've read based on Open BSD, correct?

Referred to by its code name, Jaguar, Mac OS X v10.2 is a different breed of operating system. Jaguar combines the rock-solid reliability of UNIX with the ease of use of Macintosh. This version of Mac OS X is as innovative as the computers that run it. And whether you?re a Mac user who?s upgrading, a Windows user who?s looking at switching to the Mac or a UNIX user who loves the idea of using key applications like Microsoft Office on top of a state-of-the art BSD UNIX implementation, this is the OS for you.

i really think if microsoft were allowed to dump everythign and start over randomly whenever they wanted (which they cant because they have so much larger a user base than apple) that they'd have an even better OS now (winxp is pretty good ok, no matter what you think).

really apple can switch from 68000 series to power pc, 8 years ago, and its totally ok, no one cares. they can switch all their OS software and make it all get re coded.

if microsoft did that, we'd have to redo win32s, and probably half the world would grind to a halt while in the transition.

While that sounds sarcastic, it rings true. An operating system should be intuitive, to the point where you don't need to sort through pages of instructions to do something. While you may think Windows is a piece of cake, try seeing what happens when your grandmother sits down to use the computer for the first time ever. For all of us, it's quite easy because Windows Explorer's what we've been conditioned to accept as GUI standard since Win95. The computer's interface should be there to assist you, and it should adapt to you, rather than forcing you to adapt to it (we're people, not Borg).

In addition, the GUI should also be powerful, allowing you to accomplish complex tasks without assuming that it knows what's best for you.
