OK - I'll bite. What's D2OL, and why should I run it?

I see some of my buddies and teammates names on this D2OL thing-ama-bob.

Now if McOwen is doing it, then it's safe to assume it's not a "McNutt" project -
I therefore am opening the floor to discussion surrounding why I should begin
doing DC again - and why this is the project.

I know there's some convincing folks out there. Persuade me. ;)

Here is a link to what it is and the how to setup. I wont try to sell it, as I think it speaks for itself. We have grown from 24 members to almost 90 with many more nodes in the past few weeks. Check it out and if you think its for you, step right up and give it a shot. :)

D2OL site

here is a link to their site. A few of the other team members are a lot more eloquent when speaking of the benefits of the project.

But as far as the team goes, if you read the stomping thread on this page, in less than a month. Team AnandTech has jumped from 19th to 9th,, and we will be 7th by tomorrow. We also have a great chance of finishing the year at #2 overall and within striking distance of #1. Right now we are the hottest and best team in the D2OL project.

The only negative with the project is that the client is a memory hog, and that is being nice. Some people have the client eat more than 170 meg of ram. It seems to take all it can get on smaller machines, as people have successfully run in on machines with only 96 meg of ram.

Alright TeAmates, give him the hard sell.

And DanC, this maybe early but Welcome to the TeAm

Hi Dan,

AFAIK no connections. Also AFAIK this program is as pretty close to a simple install as BOINC should be in the near future. As Slatzman mentioned it does require a bit of horsepower though so older machines such as P2's and K6's may not cut it.

Hi Dave. :)

hmmm. I suppose a 1.2 GHz T-bird or two would probably be ok...

D2OL is an easy program to run, and it's good to kick some butt in! :)

Good enough reason as any :)

Hehe, Dan.

I think the most obvious reason for you to run D2OL will be the taking of the #1 position and take it away from the DPC. ;)

I don't care if I'm a TA member, I gotta admit I love the DPC name... "Dutch Power Cows" Perfect for the project! :D

Now get them rigs running and kick some arse, DanC! :D

EDIT: Just wanted to mention that nothin' beats the Borg avatar!
