OK i'm taking another st@b a debian , and I have a nice little box for it (p450/128MB ram/6Gb hd)

I have st@ble installed but want to upgrade to sarge, do I just change the /etc/apt/sources.list ?
and then do apt-get update, apt-get upgrade?

Or is there more to it?

damnit!:| I can't type in S-T-A-B-L-E because it thinks i'm trying to say "s-t-a-b"

Yeh, the forbidden words on here are pretty sh!tty.

I've used apt-get dist-upgrade to go from stable to sarge before with very few problems, although I would suggest dselect (like that referanced upgrade doc does) because it also lets you fix the decisions it makes before you start the download/upgrade process. So if it wants to remove a bunch of packages for some reason, hopefully you can figure out why and fix it.

I just used the change sources.list, run apt-get update, then apt-get dist-upgrade to go from stable to whatever testing was called half a year ago when I tried it. Thinking about it after the fact now, Nothinman's suggestion to use dselect would make more sense, and be a safer choice.

Hmm, I was able to say "stable" without any tricks, so maybe it was just complaining about your wanting to comment about taking a thrust with a sharp object at upgrading... (yes, I know it's not right that that word is banned, but life isn't fair, and sometimes we just have to put up with annoyances like that).
