Sorry I don't know.

But that made me think of a pizzle

Pizzle = A ox penis used for whipping...I kid you not, you have to look in a real old english dictionary to find that one.

RichieZZZZ is correct.

Now imagine your wife's response coming from a customer when you ask them if they have a dongle.

A dongle was a pass-through parallel port connector that had some circuitry in it. They were used by many companies for copy protection of their software. If you did not have their dongle plugged into the parallel port the software would not work.

It was pass-through so you could still plug your printer into the dongle.

Pain in the rear things they were.

Ok, I admit it......I played you guys. Afterall, a "dongle" is a funny word in itself. I was really just dying for some humor.

BTW, keep it coming. It's great! :D

a dongle is a horrible invention that breaks or gets lost. i have broken one before and ruined a pcmcia firewire card. i recommend to all of you to get dongeless stuff. some older programs had them for your serial or parallel or usb ports for copy protection. i think autocad used to

Well a dongle is usually flexable and it has a head. You plug it into things and it transfers stuff.

What is really bad is when you get your dongle caught in your zipper. Had a customer do that once, left it plugged in and then went running through the airport with it hanging out. Ran right into a woman and broke it off. We had to order a replacement dongle for him, he could not perform his duties without it. Took 2 weeks to get a new one for him, once his dongle was replaced, he was up and going again with no problems.

Dongles are why Xircom's RealPort PCMCIA cards are so great. They eliminated the dongle with extreme prjudice :D

BTW, 3Com ripped off Xircom's design. :(

But Xircom is suing their asses off :)

Before PCMCIA "dongles" were created, there were dongles that came with products and were used as hardware security devices. They are still used today because I have one attached to a Mac G4 at work.

The software looks for the dongle and if its not found, then your software doesn't work.

Dongles are now the piece that connects to your network card to provide you with a network access module. They are REALLY fragile because I've broken 4 3COM dongles and a Linksys one. It's rediculous. I finally bought a XIRCOM :)

dongles are the most evil pieces of technology ever. not only can they take out their respective pcmcia cards, they can take down an entire laptop computer with it....

i HATE dongles .. to all dongle supporters, BITE ME:D

They are also a piece on Avid editing systems. They have some kind of chip in them or something that makes the Avid work. If you don't have it, they are VERY VERY expensive to replace.
