First, just a warning, this is another pointless rant. Ever have one of those days where your big mistake was getting out of bed? I was very excited yesterday because I had downloaded the Motor City Online beta the night before and I was getting ready to burn the 418 meg zip file to a disc in case anything went wrong. The burn (an 5 successive burns each tried after an adjustment) stopped dead in the middle of the file. I called IBM tech support to see if they had any suggestions or, in a worst case scenario, how to get an RMA for my ThinkPad CD-RW drive. I got the following, "try removing the drivers for the CD-RW drive and letting the OS re-detect it". It didn't make a lot of sense to me, but I did it anyway, only to have the drive not be detected properly. The OS wouldn't even detect my DVD drive after all this. I ended up simply running the system restore CD after saving what files I could with my ZIP 250 drive. By then Ohio State had let Wisconsin come back from 17-0 to win the game 17-20. By the time the computer was back up an operational, ATOT was offline for upgrades (not that this really bothered me, but given my computer luck yesterday it just fit that an upgrade would happen then). So I figured I'd just download Motor City Online again. This went smoothly and everything seemed to be looking up until about 9:00 when we had an anthrax threat. It seems some moron decided it would be a fun prank call to claim that there was anthrax hidden on the Pitt campus. :| At least it was fun watching everyone in the dorms freak out.
