Ok, I put a Santa Cruz card in about a week ago...

and every time I open a music file it makes the most annoying sound ever. I'm not sure how to describe it, it's like a large crack that starts if I open a new file. If there is a player already open and I open a file it doesn't do it, only when opening one when nothing else is on. It does this on Winamp and Windows Media Player, so its not the program. I also have the latest driver in as well. Does anyone have any idea why it's doing this?

try reinstalling latest via drivers (if applicable) and whatever else drivers you can come up with that deals with the soundcard/mobo. i had the same problem on my asus a7v system, and when i got *their* version (asus's) of the via drivers and it finally went away. their version of the via driver was a lot older, but since it was tailored for the mobo i guess it worked better than the newest via driver. this was the most annoying and elusive driver problem i've ever had. good luck.
