ok i have this mexican coin that says "$1000" on it. it's bigger and thicker then quarter and its in gold color. does this mean it's a 1000 pasos? and if it is, where can i exchange this coin into US dollar? if that is 1000 pasos, then its worth about $100 USdollars. I've called several places like currency exchange and they told me they'll only exchange paper money no coins. Help please.

i dont think this is anything like collection's item. just a regular coin. but current exchange rate will get me $100 us dollars if this is indeed a 1000 pasos. here is description of it.

front; has someone's face with "$1000" and letters "Juana De Asbaje" (must be his name). year is 1990.

Back; a picture of an eagle eating a snake, on a cactus. Has "Estados Unidos Mexicanos".

hope that helped.

That may be what it's worth if it was exchanged here in the US, but the last time that I was in Cancun (August), pesos and nuevo pesos were interchangeable and the exchange rate at the time was 10.5 to 1. You may just hang onto it and use it sometime when you vacation in Mexico, if you're that desperate. Otherwise, I'd suggest that you just forget about it.

do they have different rate or something? why would year of coin matter? and the rate is different at different parts of mexico?
