ok here goes.
Reformatted C drive to install Vista, replacing XP. All goes well first boot up. Installed some updates, monitor drivers, msn messenger etc etc, and reboot without the DVD in the drive.
"BOOTMGR missing, press ctrl+alt+del"
me: "................."
ok wtf. Why is it saying this? I put in the Vista dvd and run the diagnostic tool. Says Vista is on the D drive?? ok seriously now wtf. Everything was working fine and dandy with the drive letters and now Windows as usual has to mess with things? (this isn't the first time I've had drive letter problems)
Anyway so I finish the diagnostic (the startup/boot repair option) and reboot with the DVD in (and boot order set to CDROM > Hard Drive). Boots up just fine and windows is showing up on the C drive again. OK, I think everything was fixed so I restart and change my boot order to Hard drive > CDROM as I normally have it. Up comes the BOOTMGR missing msg again.
Ok so what's going on here? I wasn't aware that Vista required the cd to be in to boot up just fine.
-edit-
as I understand it the BOOTMGR is supposed to be around if it detects more than one operating system on the computer. But...I reformatted the drive that originall had my XP on it before installing Vista, so .....I have no other operating system other than Vista right now. I don't get why it still insists on looking for the BOOTMGR...
