So here it is...ordered from Newegg.com. Too bad I'm in CA so I had to pay tax AND shipping :-(

AMD 1600XP Retail
EPOX 8HKA+ MB
512MB Crucial DDR
40GB IBM HD
AOPEN CDRW2440
Pioneer 106S DVD
Santa Cruz Sound Card
Logitech Z-560 Speakers
VisionTek 6564 GF3 Ti 200
Enlight#7237AZ w/ 340W PS
Enermax FAN 12CMx25

Thermal paste. Lord know that as this is the first time I'm building a computer I'm going to need as much lube as possible ;-)

With Shipping and Tax came to about 1250. Sheesh, for that amount I could have almost bought an alienware 1600 :-(

Now I need to find a step-by-step manual for actually putting it together. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Thanks - chances are you'll be hearing from me. Any insight on good technical how-to manuals online?

Thanks Ausm, you da man. I literally only have what I ordered, plus monitor, keyboard and mouse. Is there ANYTHING else I need?

Also, could you (or anybody) suggest a GOOD power strip / surge protector. The apartment I live in has surges all the time. Turn on the dryer, surge - turn on the TV, surge.

Thanks!

If you take your time and read all of the manuals then everything will turn out fine. And if it doesn't you have some of the best minds in computers right here in these forums. I wouldn't worry about the alienware thing. I think they use the AMD 760 chipset anyway. You will get much more quality parts if you build it yourself. Besides, you can buy alienware pcs at best buy now. I've lost all respect for them.
