OK... I'm just going through my monthly payments to my credit cards.. and I realized I can't handle it anymore. I want to use a debt consolidation organization, but I know a lot of them don't do any good.

Has anyone here used any that they can recommend as being helpful?

balance transfer to a 0% interest card may be your answer.... that would take away all the interest for 6-18 months, or longer if you transfer again.

imagine if you werent paying itnerest, and it was going directly to the principle

If you can't transfer your balance to a 0% card, then you might consider a personal loan from your bank. Even @ 10% interest, it's better than the rates on the credit cards. If you decide to consolidate via this method, consider keeping just one credit card (e.g. Visa) and have the limit set at $1,000 or so - and pay it off each month like it was an American Express card.

Check out the creditnet.com forums... they are beyond helpful with this stuff. They helped me clean up my credit quite a bit, and they probably will have some good answers for you.

My friend is in the foreclosure business. He says the average house forclosure that the couple have an average of $60,000 debt and it's very common for them to have a third mortage on their house. The last 5 years it's been the higest rate of people foreclosing on their house ever since he's been in the business (quite sometime). Basically in doesn't matter if you make $150,000 /yr between you it's how you manage it and your habits you've developed through your life.

As for me ..I was proud to say a year ago I never not once didn't fully pay off my credit card every month my whole life. Now I'm doing the old 0% card to card trick. My goal is the end of the year to be 100% outta debt. Getting lasik surgery put me $2,000 in the hole but it was worth it. My two cars recently breaking down isn't helping matters either but that's the kinda financial stuff we have to prepare for.

ditto

I just applied for a First USA/Amazon CC and was approved for a [generous limit] @ 0% for 12 months. The cc will only be used for balance transfer.

Also BOFA offered me 4% fixed through the life of the loan on my $12k limit with no bt fees. Crap I'm gonna have to get 2nd and 3rd part time jobs to support my HD addiction :(

Usually a non-profit credit counseling organization will work with you and your budget.

Normally they would contact your creditors and either get your rates reduced or 0% for a short period.

It's worth a shot, anything is better than late payments, charge offs or banko's.
