I've known this one girl for a long time, say around 6-8 years, maybe more, and i've gotten to know her better over the last year and now i think i like her alot. anyway, what are the signs of the "friend-zone"? is there such a thing?

If you've known her that long, and you are not boyfriend and girlfriend, you are certainly in the friend zone.

I wouldn't say a "black hole," but when that much time goes by, you're better off looking for love somewhere else. To be honest, it's a gamble, you can hope and see what happens, or you can tell her and either it works, or your frienddship will suffer. I'm not sure what I would do if I was you.

Ahh, yes, the Counter-Strike zone where it feels like you have negative latency, and where you magically get headshot after headshot with an AK-47, as if your eyes were directly communicating with your fingers?

This isn't about Counter-Strike? Oops, sorry... I'll go away now.

Agreed you're definitely in the friend zone, which means you know that the two of you get along and you're probably comfortable enough with her to talk lightly about the possibilty of going out. Friendship is the best base for a long-lasting dating relationship. At the very least she knows you genuinely like *her*, not just her butt and breasts. That can be really encouraging to a girl looking for a nice guy, that you value her for herself and not just her body.

Hey I said in my experience, doesn't mean yours won't be different. You gotta weight the pros and cons of trying to take that step though.

girl: We need to talk
boy: what's up?
girl: I'm not really looking for a relationship right now, I just want to meet new people. Let's just be friends. (You've been LJBF'ed)
boy (wrong response): um... ok <hopefully he can wait her out for her to change her mind>

2 wks later....

girl: I've been dating this guy, he's such an assh0le/jerk, why can't I meet more guys like you?

boy: :|

boy (right response after LJBF'ed): no thanks, I have plenty of friends.

I know it happens, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I don't even worry about it any more.

don't go for it unless you know what you're doing (which you obviously don't if you asked the question in teh first place)

chances are things between you will become very different (in a negative way)

however if you think she's hot and vice versa you can do what i do and become intoxicated, then ask her to be a "Friend with Benefits"

There you go. I like to call it "friends with privileges" myself, but it sounds good to me either way.

well then you're SOL

sorry to break it to you buddy but you hereby have 2 choices, neither of which you will like

Choice 1

This
This will be your life as long as you can bear it. Learn it, live it, love it. It will thoroughly destroy you until you are no longer a man, or find a new woman to be infatuated with.

Choice 2
Tell her how you feel, chances are it's gonna be an offshoot of the link for choice 1
From there it will be either A. SCORE!!~ (1 in a million +1), B. Let's just be friends, read link from 1, C. You are still friends but nothing like you were before, D. you are so heartbroken adopt a lifestyle that is not yours in an attempt to forget about her

Don't worry, you're not alone ;)

You are completely in the "friend zone"...and there's probably very little you can do to escape.
