I've been driving a lot recently. I started noticing there is a constant rotating noise coming from the engine, I don't think it's anything major but I don't want to wait until it becomes something major. so I took it to the honda dealer this moring and stated that there is some kind of noise coming from the engine. Well, they couldn't hear anything, and they said some minor engine sound is normal. I said I know that, but I've never hear this rotating sound before..so they promised to check on it. And also the mileage on my car is approaching 7500 miles service maintenance, so I figure I'd do both things at once. 3 hours later, I got my car back, they did the 7500 miles service, but the rotating sound is still there....they said they couldn't fix anything if they don't see any problem at all. But as a car owner, I know there is something wrong, and I am suspecting it's the driving belt that cause the noise. So I am planning to go back this saturday again...but what should I do this time? They react like I am just a nitpicking owner..which I AM NOT!!
Ok..help me now.

Act like a nitpicking owner.

Tell them that you want to ride with their tech on the test drive and point out the noise. If they still say it is nothing, you can always find another dealer and have them look at it.

another honda dealer? I always went to the same dealer, and they seems to be quite ok. But this time, they don't help me. So would honda dealer honor the parts and labor of another honda dealer? If so, I would definitely give it a try.
Also, could the noise come from a dirty belt or a loose belt? I am really suspecting the belt that's running next to the engine...is it ok that I clean it up myself? I want your opinion before I do anything stupid.

well, my car is no longer under the warranty. But on the bottom of every invoice, it says the labor will have a 12 month warranty. I know that hasn't expired....so is that good enough?

That doesn't sound good enough. I do not know what this 12 month warranty pertains to, but I guess it is only on repairs on each invoice.

Example: They replace a CV Joint, the labor on replacing that same CV Joint within 12 months is covered under warranty.

If you are no longer under warranty and they find this noise you are talking about, it will cost you money to fix.

Is that supposed to be 75,000 miles?

No, 7,500 is a normal scheduled maintenance on Hondas.
Honda's suggested maintenance schedule:
Every 3,750 - Oil Change
Every 7,500 - rotate tires, oil change, and more
Every 15,000 - same as minor maintenance with a few more things including flushing of coolant
Every 30,000 - includes all the above and more

What's a "rotating" sound?

This reminds me of my wife. Almost every time after I bring her car in for routine maintenance or repair, she complains that she hears a noise and demands that I bring it back to the garage.

Of course, this is a major pain in the neck. First, I have to get up early to drive her car to the garage, then I have to walk to work. Since I live in Upstate NY, it's frigid cold about 6 months out of the year so I freeze my tail off. Then since my wife can't drive my car because it has a stick shift, I have to leave work, walk back to the garage and pick up my kids at school, drop them off and go back to work. Of course, the garage can't find anything wrong.

Then when I get home she tells me I didn't explain the problem properly because I'm a dope, the mechanics are incompterent crooks, and I have to bring the car back again.

After 3 times of the garage finding nothing wrong, I refuse to bring it back again and live with incessant nagging until she finds some else to b$tch at me about.

Ask to ride along with the technician to point out the noise. If the technician says the sound is normal after you have pointed it out to him, then 99% of the time, it's normal. This type of thing is a common phenomena in the Spring at repair shops. As people drive more, and drive with the windows down some too, they hear perfectly normal noises than were masked in the winter by the heater fan or by the window glass. Aside from pointing the sound out to a technician while on a ride along, there is nothing that you can do. Some belt whine is normal. My car's accessory belts whined for a good 20,000 miles after they were changed the last time. If it's a whirring type noise, it's probably nothing to be concerned about at all. Now, if it were a harsh, grinding noise, then there would likely be problems.

I am confused.
If the car only has 7500 miles on it, shouldn't it still be under warranty?

Right, but the standard Honda warranty is 3 years/36000 miles so if it's only got 7500 miles on it, how can it not be under warranty?

Anyway, my '02 Civic makes a whining noise. It's particularly noticeable between 1000/2000 RPM, especially when you first cold-start the car. I just figured it was normal belt noise. I first noticed it with only a few hundred miles on the car....

ok...did a service at 45000 miles....now my car is at 52k miles so I did a 7500 miles service......is that clear to everyone now?
the rotating sound isn't very obvious..but it's definitely there. When I step on the gas pedal I can feel the car doesn't accelerate as smoothly as before...but what can I do to get theirr attention? They don't pay detail attention...
