Suddenly, for no apparent reason my DSL wont allow me to download. I can surf the net, look at emails, open files from locations (except windows update wont work), however I am unable physically download anything on to my hard drive. Sometimes I can download a few hundred k but things always timeout

I have reformatted 2 times and tried both Win 2k and XP Pro

I have changed all cables

I have tried 2 ISPs (albeit on the same network)

I have reset my router.

I have no firewalls or such programs active.

Does anyone have an ideas what could cause this? It could be the router but the timeouts are confusing. Is there anything that could happen on my line/exchange that would cause this to happen?

help me while I still have hair 🙂

I'd suggest using some kind of network diagnostics program to check out what's going on; Fire up tcpdump, start your download, wait for it to stop and watch the packet capture; are packets still coming through? Did they stop totally? Try sniffing on the other side of your router too [external side] is traffic still flowing? This will help you isolate the problem further, and hopefully nail it down.

good to hear it. I've always used Intel or 3Com NICs and have never had a problem 🙂 *knocks on wood*
