Please check out the my rig link at the bottom of the page.
I am gutting this system and building a faster one.
Parts I have besides the ones there are as follows:
256 mb Crucial **thanks hot deals forum 🙂
SB 16 PCI
Linksys nic
riva tnt 2 16mb
keyboard,mouse
24x cdrom

I hope to take my existing gateway and make my own lan, which means i will need these parts for my new system:
Monitor
Speakers
Motherboard ASUS A7V ?
CPU: TB 1 or 1.2

I would really appreciate your input everyone, I know that you guys know a lot more than me. I don't really think it will be too difficult to do this but just let me know what you think, any criticism is also appreciated.
I will answer any more questions about my existing parts also.

Thanks a ton!

Asus is a good choice for a motherboard, but I would highly recommend getting the A7V133 instead of just the A7V.

I think you would be better off getting the 1ghz TB instead of the 1.2 and upgrading your video card as 16mb just doesn't cut it anymore. Your overall performance would be greater with a slower processor and better video card.

As for speakers, I highly recommend Altec Lansing...I'm not up to date with their product #'s or specs, but my last 2 sets of speakers have been Altec and I haven't been disappointed to say the least.

I have a 32mb vid card diamond 770 not viper though
And I meant the kt133 chipset, if thats what they call it.
Thanks for the input

Sorry about that I was a little too lazy to check your Gateway's specs 😛

KT133A chipset is what your looking for. The KT133 is the older version of it. the A7V is just an older version of the A7V133, the A7V133 contains the KT133A chipset. You could use the older KT133 motherboard but if your going to be putting out the money for a 1ghz+ cpu I figure you want the newer version.

What are you going yo be using your system for? Gaming? You should also keep what your going to be using it for in mind when buying these things.

I will be using both my systems for gaming, internet, multimedia
I didn't think it would be too much money to build a nicer pc using the stuff I already have.
I will also be using the older pc for screwing around with many different os's
I don't really like to do that with my main pc.

As far as monitors go, I think Samsung makes some quality monitors that are reasonably priced.
I have a 700IFT and almost everyone on these boards who has an IFT series monitor likes it a lot.

All I can say is, keep your eye on the Hot Deals forum, sometimes things go fast. 🙂

Get a KT133A motherboard, Asus, MSI, Epox, Iwill all good.

For monitor, like previously mentioned, Samsung is good, especially their NF series.

sb16 is getting dated man. try buying the epox 8kta3, its a via 133A with sound. my friend loves his. but on your profile page its says sblaster 128.

as far as the components id recommend are as follows:
motherboard: epox 8kta3 $140
proc: thunderbird 1.1ghz $240
case: enlight 7237 if its available, any midtower atx with 300w ~$60

that should fill out your system nicely. maybe upgrade the vidcard later.

the hard drive u have now should be fine, but ull need a new ATX case probably.

thats a pretty good system for the money. these prices are from a local place i buy. this is a rough estimate for you.

good luck with your system
