ok, I think I have made my decision on the E4300. Now I need a good mobo to go with it but nothing to pricey!!

also, this will be my first attempt at oc'ing, so I will need any tutorials on how to do this without ruining anything!!

I have built my own pc in the past, so im not totally new to this, but just new to the whole oc'ing thing.

any suggestions on ram, and a ps!!

I will be reusing my old case, atx of course.

I am on a budget, but all suggestions are welcome!!

thanx!!

so, this is what the order looks like!!
originally I had the (SAPPHIRE Radeon X1950PRO)in mind, but since eVGA has life time warranty and the step up program, I think of going with the eVGA card. the hd, I decided last min, now its oem, but it should still have the 5 year warranty right??

the only other thing I plan to buy will be a cpu cooler, but thats when I decide to oc it, and then I will also upgrade to a better gc maybe. other then that, I think I am all set to go.

now one more question before I acutally place the order. Im not sure if I will upgrade the gc right away, and being that thier step up program is only within 90 days of purchase, should I still go with the eVGA card or just go with the X1950PRO?? also, im not too sure if I would want to upgrade being that im not a huge gamer but I do like to play some games!!

Gigabyte GA-965P-S3, good oc'ing board, good price. Buy ram based on what FSB you will be aiming for. Want a 400FSB, get cheap DDR2-800 ram. Either that or get some overclockers ram with Micron D9's. There's a thread here which will help you find those if you search for it. I'm too lazy to look it up for you.
Get a decent HSF. Freezer 7 Pro works pretty good for $30. Fairly quiet too.

what is your budget?

well, lets say 500 and thats cpu, mobo, ps, decent ram, and maybe a cpu cooler.

was reading the article from up front and though that for 30 odd bucks it wouldnt be a bad idea!!

e4300 $180 (with stock cooler) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819115013

Gigabyte S3 $110 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128017

G.Skill 2GB DDR2-800 $200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231098 (I'm assuming you'd want 2GB)

450W FSP PSU $55 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817104954 (going with any type of higher end CPU and high o/c you're probably going to have to spend at least in the $80+ area for a better PSU)

Total=$545

Edit: Just o/cing that processor to the run at 1066FSB like the Conroe chips (instead of 800) is going to give you 266(FSB)X9(multi)=2364MHZ over the stock 1800MHZ. That leaves a ton of headroom for the RAM also.

thank you very much as this is very appreciated!!!!

one thing though, I wouldnt mind 2 gigs of ram but 200 bucks for ram seems like alot, then agian im use to buying FAR ram.

oh, and where might I find the best tutorial or write-up on how to oc safely??

thank you once again!!

do a google search on an o/c guide and check the forums. a quick search turned this up http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/oc-guide.html

yeah memory prices are expensive. if you want 1GB instead of 2, it'll obviously be abot 1/2 the cost. Guess that would leave room for an aftermarket CPU cooler but it all depends on how high you intend to o/c. Depending on what you're doing with the PC though, you just may be better off with the extra RAM.

Also, read this as it applies to that CPU I listed

for ram, moosey suggested the following,
G.Skill 2GB DDR2-800

but I was looking at this one, and was wondering if it would be just as good as what moosey suggested.

I know people will say wait till the new GF8800 mid-range cards come out, which I'd tend to agree if you can wait, if you need one now check this though
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102061
Also, if you don't want to wait but may upgrade anyway, consider going with eVGA for nvidia for the step-up program.

That OCZ memory should be fine, the latencies are lower than the GSkill. Didn't see that initially in my 1st quick check.

Last thing, don't skimp on the PSU

That OCZ RAM is DDR, not DDR2. You'll have to find another mobo if you plan to try the OCZ.

None of those PSUs. Go for an XClio 450BL ($38 @ the egg), XClio 500W Goodpower ($52 @ the egg) or Enhance 500W ENP-5150G ($70 @ eWiz). Go for the X1950Pro that moosey suggested. Also, the G.Skill ram is now $185, so get it while its hot, or it'll go oss.
