Hullo,

The computer I have right now is crap (I built it a while ago), so I'm going to upgrade it so it can actually play a game. I'm not even going to post its specs, but I will say that all I will need is a new mobo, CPU, and memory. (I've got the rest.)

Anyway, this is what I had in mind:

My budget is about $400 shipped (+ -).

Motherboard
* ($111.00) ASUS "P4P800-E Deluxe"
- Link: http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=13-131-492&depa=0

* ($89.00) ASUS "P4P800 SE"
- Link: http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=13-131-484&depa=0

CPU
* ($178.00) Intel Pentium 4/ 2.8E (800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache, HT, Retail)
- Link:

* ($159.00) Intel Pentium 4/ 2.6C (800Mhz FSB, 512K Cache, HT, OEM)
- Link: http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=19-116-160&depa=1

I'm planning to get the Intel P4 2.8Ghz with the ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe with some ram from crucial, newegg, or outpost (512mb ram will be around $100).

Does anybody have any grudges, other recommendations/suggestions, comments, criticism, rants, etc.?

Any reason I shouldn't get any of the items above?

If you're building for "gaming" .....then at about the same price point you could go with an A64 3000+ \ Asus K8N-E (nf3 250) motherboard with 512mb of PC3200 and get much better performance for games.

I'm not a "fanboy" type (as you can see in my sig), I'm just trying to point you toward the best bang for your buck.
