Callin' you out from where ever you're hiding! I haven't seen chess9 participate in any of the recent political threads and I miss the old fella's posts. Anybody know where our illustrious chess9 has gone? If I get no response from His Honor, I'll simply assume he gave up and is now a die-hard Republican supporter who will most certainly vote for George Dubya Bush. :)

JellyBaby:

Sorry for the absence, but I actually got a life for a few days. Now it's gone, so I'm stuck back here reading this trash. :p

I think Bush should be given credit for turning his life around by quitting the drugging and drinking. Most alcoholics will tell you they wish they could take back the 5-30 years they made a complete fool of themselves. Most are very ashamed of the things they did. I do feel sorry for the poor bastard, but he IS running for Prez so I guess he's fair game.

Also, maybe the Republicans will take this opportunity to get off the high and mighty holier than thou seat they THINK they've been occupying for 8 years.

I can think of 50 legitimate reasons not to vote for Bush, and the drinking isn't one of them.

I realize this isn't germane to the thread, but it's past my bedtime and my nurse is here to tuck me in and give me my cod liver oil, so I thought I'd sneak in a punch or three. :p

Gotta go to bed now. I have to run a 5K race tomorrow with my 12 year old daughter and I so hate to be beaten badly. (I know I will be beaten, sniff.)

Vote for Gore, and the big federal government will tell you how to run the race. ;)

Good luck -- I'll have a beer for you. Actually, I need to run tomorrow, too, but I'll stick to somewhere under two miles to keep the shin splints at bay, then I'll hit the weights. Getting in shape is so much fun (it really is, but I haven't hit that point yet where it doesn't seem like chore).

He?s alive, he's alive! :)

That's certainly a philosophical viewpoint you're taking re: Bush + the DUI. I more or less agree with you. One thing?s for certain: the media is certainly gobbling this story up and won't drop it anytime soon. At least that?s true of FOX. Guess Rupert lost control of his baby!

Good luck with the race. Be sure to remind your nurse to put your running shoes on the right feet. ;)

The media are worse than either candidate. Talk about beating a dead horse. They did the same thing to Clinton. When Bush is elected his life will be h*ll for 4 years. I suppose it's just a hair shirt variant for politicians, but it all seems needlessly cruel. I've never been needlessly cruel, so I wouldn't understand....:)

Buchanan, Nader, and Browne are looking like winners these days. I am so disgusted with this campaign I'm going to wear a clothes pin on my nose when I enter the voting booth. 'Course if I run before I enter the voting booth....

Andrew: After I was hit by a car while riding my bike I put on a lot of weight. Got up to about 225 from about 180. I'm now about 195 thanks to running the past six months. I've promised myself I'm going to get to my high school weight-about 170. December 1 I start doing 15 mile runs one day a week. If that doesn't do it, I'll buy a ticket to Biafra.

Well, gotta go. Nice and cool here for a change. Should be a great day for a race.

:p

chess9,

Yep, the media frenzy and lack of personal freedom prevent many-a-good candidate from running for president. Colin Powell voiced his concerns about how that life would affect him and his familiy...Jesse Ventura said he does not want to be president for exactly the reasons I mentioned. It's just insane.

The only solution is to clean up the system and I don't see either big party taking up the challenge here. And why should they? They flourish in it. Disgusting.

On hopefully brighter notes, the race must be over by done. How'd the chess gang fare?

Well, on a positive note, my daughter dogged it in the 5K and I smashed her like a halloween pumpkin!! :p She ran 30:42, about 9 minutes off her PR. (She claimed a sore throat. Fuff!)I ran 22:07, which isn't too bad for a neanderthal jock.

We will get just like the Europeans-we will stop expecting our politicians to be saints. When the American public stops its Puritanical voyeurism, then Clinton sleeping with the city of Chicago would only make the Guinness Book of World Records, not every newspaper in the country. All the gossip is really ho-hum stuff. Some people don't have enough on their plates.
Frankly, I prefer it when preachers get into trouble because they always do it so much more indelicately. Jim Baker springs to mind.

Anyway, what the h*ll are we going to talk about AFTER the election? Sheesh! Red will probably fall asleep on the sofa and not wake up till Valentine's Day. :p

ROFLMAO! You need to hit the talk show circuit, Red. That Plains humor will have you living in the style to which you would like to become accustomed.

chess,

You both finished! I know very little about the sport of running (if I want to go someplace fast, I'll drive or ride a bike) but your time sounds quite good. For me the more cerebral sports have more appeal (like bowling and table tennis). ;)

What shall we do after the election? Oh I?m sure we?ll discuss the ups and downs of the past 8 years, put all that in perspective, and pontificate about the next 4 years. Scandals are bound to pop-up, military conflicts are inevitable with Rs and Ds involved, the economy as some predict will tank and you and Tripleshot will surely want to blame Rs and Shrub. ;) Lots of goodness coming up and I personally can?t wait!

I personally predict Red will finally clean up his act. He'll never again start another flame war. He may actually serve to moderate the discussion in future political threads. The children in the forum will grow to respect him and eventually he'll run for president in 2016 against one of Jr. Bush's daughters. And during his campaign he's so taken with Jr. Bush's daughter he marries her. They produce many offspring who look just like Red and we all live happily ever after. :p
