cant help unless we know why you these cars, what purpose might they serve and etc.

these 2 cars are not in the same group either.

styling both are great and hard to choose from,

handling both are great cars to drive, but mini will give you that road feel more.

i know the TSX is pretty much a solid car in terms of repairs, i know nothing of the mini.

they can be solid cars, i forget who makes them, BMW or benz

if its your money and your the main driver, get what YOU want end of story. now if he plays a big role in what car you get then take the other car end of story.

too me it seems like you dont have any options at this point. in my situation right now, i'm looking for a car i'm the primary driver, its my money but i need it to be under my dad's name so i dont get raped in insurance cost, the only thing he has say in right now to me is sedan. i pick the car, color , etc. which happens to be a g35x

TSX is the better value, the Mini is cute but highly impractical. i've sat in both and the TSX would suit the majority's needs more. a trunk, a backseat, less bumpy ride. and just as easy to drive. the mini gets the fun factor but that runs out quickly on the highway.

a TSX fits the bill for almost all young adults, like stated before, space and cargo, its not a SUV in terms of storage space but its way better then a mini, mini might have slight better MPG but unless you going to drive it hard to enjoy the handling just get a TSX, try to open with the navi so you can screen hack it to play dvd's on the 7in screen.

I know someone that made this same decision 3 years ago and she chose the TSX. Both cars are girly in my opinion and drive like crap compared to how sporty they want to be.

Anyway, pick the one that you like to drive. I've gotten over 31mpg highway in a TSX which I was impressed with. But it needs premium gas, which is ridiculous for a car that only has 200ish horsepower.

I'd go fot TSX as well. I was thinking about TSX or Cooper-S, (ended up 06 325i, lol) but I found out Mini's interior is too small. It's nice car for small & cute girls like my girlfriend (5' 3") and her friends, but for the rest, not much nice.

Cooper S, with its engine and handling, is indeed a small beast though. But there is too much to give up for that joy, IMO.
