OK Bike freaks!!!

Anyone here ever ridden one of THESE before?

I've ridden two different ones and I just picked one up for the shop today for $300. Some of the parts have been changed, but it looks like it could be a easy restoration. (Too bad it's a TALL one, I'll probably kill my dumb ass self trying to ride it! 😉

no, but I wouldn't mind trying it. I also wanna try a unicycle, but don't have money to buy these things just to try them...

where the fsck does one find something like that anyway?

I went to this guys house to buy a used 3 wheel 3 speed trike (to resell, he only wanted $100. for it and I can get $300. $350. all day long for them at the shop. Even though I TOLD him I would take it and be there at 6:30-7:00 he sold it before I got there. 🙁

BUT he had this gem in a back room! 🙂

By the way, these are commonly referred to as "Penny Farthings" because the size relationship between the front wheel and the rear is about that of a penny to a farthing.

LOL..
Oh my. That thing is huge! I didn't know those still existed.

You need to post pics of you riding it 😉

How do you get on it, anyway?

I'll keep an eye on craigslist for them then, though I doubt anyone would have something in my $30-50 range 😉

There is a small peg sticking out above the rear wheel, you stand in that peg, jump up with (hopfully) your foot landing on the pedal and away you go! To stop, you BAIL!! 😀

They made them in ALL sizes. The taller you were the bigger bike you bought. Meaning the taller you were, the FASTER you could go. Also, the more speed you gained on your way DOWN when you crashed! 😉

This one is BIG. I'll TRY and ride it, but I ain't promising ANYTHING! 😉

No, I've never ridden one but then again I've never needed to light up the gas streetlamps at night. Pretty sweet though.

Even the smallest were dangerous compared to a modern bike.

They are great attention pieces though...definitely eye catching.

I'll say. I searched both ebay and craigslist, but none came up. I wanna be seen riding that around town 😀

you can build them pretty easy I believe, when I was in mountain biking a lot I read about them. There are clubs and stuff for these riders.

hardest part is the front wheel. The rest is basically pipe and welding, you can adapt a lot from regular bikes.

I grew up riding one of those. The front wheel is large so you can ride over horse apples and drunks. It is espcially good after rainstorms when you have to ford a creek that has swollen beyond its banks.

All things considered, you got a good deal considering where you live.
