It wont let me fit have the crap i want to type in the fields it gives me....

I couldnt even type out the title of most of my jobs.... Ended up abbreviating them....

This one is the best;

"Please comment on how your prior education and experiences qualify you for the type of employment you are seeking. Detail any past responsibilities and achievements.
Note any special coursework, honors, activities, special projects, military training or any other data that will assist us in considering your application for employment. "

And this is how much space they give me;

"Homebuilding computers for the past 6 years, combined with my extensive knowledge of technology, and my ability to deal with people of various cultures as i did during my semester abroad in Europe. "

I cant even finish a sentence, so i dont know what to write.

Call up a store and ask them if you can just type up your answers and mail them over or something.

I have had experience with it. About 2 years ago, I decided to use it. What I found out is that they fax the application to the store. Now here comes my story; Someone called my up the next day to set up a job interview (I applied for a part time job in the cd department). I show up at the store and tell them I have an interview and they told me that they weren't expecting me and that they didn't call me HA! So he did an interview (probably because I showed up) and I could immediately tell that the interview was a blow off one. My point is that you are better off handing it in the store. The online website and the local store coordination are awful.

All Best Buy initial applications must either be done online or on through the 1-800 number.

Damn. I was going to apply online because they usually never give you an application when you ask for one in store.

Is this a new policy? They had store applications in 2000-01.

They have been doing the phone thing since at least 98. They use it as a method of prescreening subjects by viewing their answers and amount of time taken. Even when I filled out a instore application, I still had to do the phone survey. I could not do the online one since at the time best buy did not have a website.

From someone that used to work at BestBuy (and hated it), this is how it works...

When you fill it out online, they don't really screen you at all with that. (Well unless you're just totally horrible.) They do however keep it for their records, and if/when a "job fair" at Best Buy happens they will call you up a couple days before for you to come in. (You can just walk in also, if you see that they are having a job fair, and just fill out an app there)

So you come in, then they give you some stupid interview w/ the lowest tier manager. After that if they like you, they will have you wait and hour or two so you can have another interview w/ the middle tier manager. After that, you will again wait an hour or two to have an interview w/ the store manager. So if you get called in and make it through the rounds, expect to have wasted your entire day. You have to memorize and say some idiotic acronyms, blah blah blah. Then they place you in a section (even if you have little/no knowledge of it).

They don't really give a cr@p about experience, knowledge, or how good of a salesperson you are, but rather they like you're attitude (in other words, if you kiss their @ss). Employee morale is low and the turnover rate is high. Enjoy.

Thanks for explaining the process.

That is the same exact process at Circuit City. When I worked there a few years back, I had to do 3 seperate interviews. The job was decent but you're right about morale and turnover. After a couple months, I'd say 25% of the employees had quit and moved on.

I tried to apply online to BB for the longest time. I always got the stupid "there are no stores in your area message" until one day, the BB closest to me was hiring! I only answered a few basic questions: name, address, SS#, then it asked something like, "Would you agree to take a drug test if hired?" I answered yes, of course. Then it said "We're sorry, but there are other candidates that more closely meet our requirements." And that was the end. WTF? Do they want drug addicts or something?
