OK, BEST 6800gt drivers.

i need an answer too. I'm downloading the 71.84 WHQL drivers (latest official ones) and i'd like to know if there are better alternatives out there

the tech at bfg reccomended the 75.90 drivers available at guru3d when my 6800gt was acting up (before i did the rma).
they work great with the other nvidia cards i have and he said that over at bfg they like them the best so far.
fwiw

good luck

I'm happy with the Xtreme G 71.84. Link at http://www.tweaksrus.com/. I can play Wolf: ET at 1280x1024 with 6xAF,16xAA on my 6800NU so I think that's pretty impressive. It's either the 71.84 or the Xtreme G tweaks but it used to be unplayable for some reason.

I tried both the 71.84s and the 75.90s and experienced bad graphical performance in World of Warcraft with my 6800gt. So I reverted back to the 66's.

Nvidia cards do not support 6xAA so your likely using 0x

I have too, and I think the same thing. The 71.84s are the most stable and the fastest performers IMHO. The only real "issue" with these drivers are that they report the wrong temp, but that is a minor problem to me.

With the temp thing.. Did anyone ever find out if it was acutally the temp increasing, or is it simply a problem with the software reporting? I remember hearing it may be caused by the drivers holding the chip at full speed during 2d, or slowing down the fan too much. Then others would say it was just software was calculating the temp wrong.

I've heard both from people who took actual readings so its hard to say.. Either way it doesn't really matter that much. OCing to 402 or above fixes the problem and if you don't want to OC then all that really matters is the load temps anyways, which don't go up any highier.

well i looked on the nvidia forums and everyone says the 71.84 are shizz. so why they say that and you guys say its the best?

The temp problem is real for some because they have used thermal probes to measure the temperature of the cards. Some are reporting 10 C changes from previous drivers.
The overclocking to fix the issue works, but they say you only need to overclock the 2D.
See other forums such as the ones at guru3d.com for more details.

edit: That's up to a 10 C rise in temps at idle, it doesn't seem to change the load temp at all.

two more questions....how come when i change the clock settings:

1. everytime i start up my comp it goes back to the origional settings even if i check apply these settings at startup box.
2. the highest it goes before saying the settings are too high is 411mhz, 1.11ghz when my stepbrother who has the SAME exact setup as me and same drivers and same card can go up to 425mhz and 1.16ghz.....please help

There's a box in coolbits you have to check to apply settings at startup.

Different cards clock at different speeds. Remember, your card is only rated to run 350/1000. Anything extra is gravy.
