In the past you've witnessed that I simply cannot buy a new car @ $15K decided to go with a used car. I think they have a much higher value for my abdundant yet steep budget. Now here are some Qs for you:

1. Just what cars are good for used around $15K? Only two I can think of are accords and camry... Someone mentioned Infiinity before...
2. Just what year is the sweet spot for any cars? or specifically for an accord? 00? 01? 02? I really want the 02 SE but they linger @ $17K...
3. Obviously 5% MA sales tax doesn't apply to used cars if buying from a private owner.. How about dealers?
4. Just what the hell do you recommend that I do? I just want a good car for my money and get this done with dammit ;)

[edit]
Used 02 Accord SE

Let's take a look at this car for example. The dealer is asking $17.5K~. Can you haggle prices with used cars just like buying new ones? How come RossMan bought this brand new, out-the-door for $17.5K~ and this car is the same price? I also have to deal with High APR% because it's used right?

What are you looking for exactly? Power, speed, sportiness, reliability, gas mileage, etc...?

You could swing a 1999 or 2000 Audi A4 Quattro for 15k-16k... Now my question with used cars is how to bargain with the price? Use Kelly's Blue Book and find the price of that car for a private seller since they are usually lower and offer that amount or lower to the used car dealer?

Edit
Now remember Rossman's Accord was a loss leader Accord Invoice was $19.5k.

Yikes $17.5k for a USED 2002 Accord SE?

Damn I paid $17,244 for a NEW Accord SE then again it was a loss leader (which I mailed you about a dozen today, should get them in a few days).

What's the KBB value for that car?

I wish you were here in Oregon!!!

Based on Edmund's TMV (True MArket Value), it's @ $16K. I plan to ask @ $15K out the door.

By the way, thanks for the call, I was pleasantly surprised and am grateful :)

Quick question here, how do you guys go about finding loss leaders? At first I had no clue what they even were, but after a little bit of research I found that out, but can't really see how you "find" loss leaders. Seems more like something you would stumble upon. Or, somehow you would have to make the dealer believe that you'll be buying more cars in the near future. Any tips/suggestions/advice?

Based on what rossman told me so far, it's those car ads found in newspapers with extremely low prices (ex: mazda6 for $15K)

In order for them to advertise that way, they must have at least ONE car to sell at the advertised price. So, you intelligently pick this out and bring the ad to the dealer and buy the car for the advertised price.

I got my 2000 Accord LX for $13,200 out the door with 21k on the mileage.
The dealer where I got it from have bunch of 02 Accord with sticker price of $16k.
I think you can get one for about $13.5. Don't know about SE though.
Edmunds is better than KBB. Edmunds use TMV which has more realistic price while KBB is dealer friendly publication.
KBB tends to overvalue car retails price. Out of 30+ dealers that I visit, only one use Edmunds and not surprisingly they have the lowest price and I end up getting my Accord from them.

You're welcome, it was good talking to you on the phone. Hope the information I gave you helped.

Like I said, I mailed you a dozen loss leader ads today when you get them it will all make sense :)
