I saw a thread in the Garage about a paraglider which was basically a dune buggy as well. I did a search on youtube for powered paraglider and found this, simply amazing. The guy leaves from his yard with a gopro and 12 minutes later is setting up camp on a mountain 10k feet up. I need one of these!

Isnt "powered" an oxymoron for "glider"?

You can have powered motor gliders in full scale sailplanes, the intention is to get to thermalling altitude and shut it off. Often the engine retracts to reduce the drag or the props fold back. I fly RC sailplanes and have a few "electric assist" motor gliders.

It's easier to simply explain that the term 'paraglider' originally meant unpowered, and since adding a fan to the body of someone who is paragliding does not really make them an airplane, a new term was needed. Thus 'powered paragliding'.

I'd imagine that flying around mountains like that would be for more experienced pilots as there has to be some unexpected turbulence as the wind comes across the peaks and yea, that dude is really annoying.
