I was reading an MSNBC article on AOL & Microsoft... and this paragraph struck me as funny... or retarted...

"The two are discussing the extension of a five-year pact, which expired in January, for AOL to make Microsoft?s Internet Explorer the default browser, or window onto the Web, for its 29 million subscribers."

WTF??? "window onto the web" ??? are people really tooooo stupid to know WTF a web browser is????

I got news for you people some people who do not use AOL are too stupid to know what a web browser is. AOL is not the only company with idiots as members. They just have the most idiots.

6,153,740,085

28,000,000 of those people are on AOL...

I dont think that people that use aol (for the most part) are dumb...just uninformed. I think if you know nothing about computers/internet, like my grandparents, AOL makes it easier for them to do what they want.

If you spend the next 3 years using it...then you have a problem.

guyver01: AOL members make up .455% of the world's population. That means that one in every 220 people in the world has internet access through AOL. Very scary . . .

This is even scarier. There are 29 million subscribers. I don't think that includes all the different people who use the same account, for example mom and dad pay for the account but Jonny, Susie, and Mike all have screen names under this one account. There could be 4x as many AOL users, compared to the number of subscribers... Scary. If they are including all Screen Names in the 29 mil, then I am completely wrong, but I don't think they do...

AOL is very secretive about how that 29 million is actually arrived at. Since its so hard just to cancel AOL I figure if you EVER signed up for it, paying or not, your still considered a user.

Vast majority of AOL users are in the US right? US population is approx. 284.5 million making 9% of the US population AOL users.

I'm guessing that the 29 million is the number of active accounts or inactive for < 90 days. Reasonn being is that they 'hold' your screen name for 90 days (or something like that) so that if you change your mind about cancelling (if you finally convince them to stop harassing you) you can have your old account back...

If you did not know that by now, you have not been paying much attention.

Your making way too much out of simple jargon & promoting the usual knee-jerk AOL bashing. What is so magical about the term "browser"? The use of, or correspondingly, the unfamiliarity with, jargon terms has absolutely nothing to do with intelligence.

To me a much more significant question is why AOL is even talking to M$ about continuing to use IE. I mean, they bought Netscape quite a while back. Haven't they worked that into decent enough shape to use as their browser interface. OTOH, I can no longer use Netscape without it crashing every single time I exit-whether this is the fault of Netscape or some nasty thing M$ has done to my computer, I don't know.

The AOL/Microsoft/Netscape thing is a conspiracy. Since Microsoft could not buy Netscape and destroy them, AOL and Microsoft secretly got together and agreed that AOL would buy Netscape, ruin it, and get paid of by MS.

Well, that's what my imagination tells me, anyhow :D
