The bottom line is that she didn't do prison time because she's a very attractive female and the kid was a 14 year old guy. Had that been a creepy male teacher doing that to a 14 year old girl, I can assure you he wouldn't be lounging around a swimming pool like she's doing. Nor would he get a primetime interview where we're provoked to feel pity for him. I cannot believe that when asked if her appearance played a part in not serving time, she actually said "yes, sex sells."

I blame her for what she did to the kid but I blame our system even more for allowing her to spend her days getting a sun tan in her backyard while so many other rapists are behind bars.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I guess I am in the monority. I saw her mostly accepting blame for what she did. At one point she even said she should be in jail. She DID explain her background of rape, bipolar disorder, etc. Having known someone with a very similar background to her, I can see a lot of the same behaviour between the two of them. You must accept that events that happen when you are young DO help sculpt your life. Do I think that what she did was the exact same a male teacher with female student? No. This was still wrong, but lets face it, the boy was a very willing participant, and if the roles were reversed, I believe a girl would have had a much harder time standing up and avoiding the relationship.

still makes me upset she got 3 months.

There are a lot of people out there in the world.

People who don't wish to better themselves and don't wish to change, so their initial reaction will always be to make excuses or shift blame, so they don't have to be honest with their own disgusting habits. :( A lot of people deal with this to varying degrees.

That wasn't what she was asked. She was asked why she thought her case drew so much attention. She mentioned that another female teacher was arrested a few days after her, and there was hardly any press. The interviewer asked her why she thought that was and she said she didn't know. He then asked her if she thought it was because she was attractive, and she said "yes, sex sells"

not everything is comparable. 14 yr old male child isn't the same as 14 yr old female child. the potential for harm is far greater when dealing with females with the risk of pregnancy and all that comes with. with a female adult she can atleast be responsible for possible resulting pregnancy. as for her looks, of course its a factor. the punishment should take into account the actual harm done. and frankly getting "raped" by her is as a 14 yr old is like being smacked in the face by a wad of hundred dollar bills. not much harm if any at all. abuse of position and responsibility perhaps, but not extreme harm.

Hey, at least she didn't get knocked up by this kid, and have his love child. Oh wait, that was already done, wasn't it?

Back when I was in high school, a male shop teacher (mid 30's) was fooling around with a 15 year old sophomore girl. They were out in his van, in the parking lot, getting it on. One of our custodial staff was what's now known as a "handicapped" person (back then, he was considered mildly retarded), whose sole job was to go around and empty the trash cans into his rolling garbage can, then take that out to the dumpster and empty it, plus push a broom around. That was about the extent that Eddie could handle, but he was a good guy and everyone loved his sense of humor.
Eddie went to take out the trash, and saw the teacher's van a rockin' and a rollin', and was concerned that someone was stealing something out of it (that's how innocent Eddie was about worldly things). He told another custodian, and they called the cops. When the cops showed up, the van was still rockin'! They knocked on the window (it was a conversion van with curtains, if I recall), and annouced themselves as police, and asked whoever was inside to come out.
After a few minutes of furious activity, out steps this teacher and student, both looking quite disheveled! Caught in the act, so to speak. When all was said and done, and after the principal and superintendant spoke with the girl's parents and the cops, it was decided by the parents that if this teacher left town and moved far away, and promised to never contact their daughter again, that they wouldn't press charges. Why? First off, no one could prove anything had happened, even though everyone knew it had, since no one had actually seen anything......and the girl refused to testify against the teacher.

Let me tell you, though, that us kids were all pretty amazed at how this guy up and resigned, and moved across country on a moment's notice (we found out the details later). I'm sure he got his just rewards, though, when he had to explain why they were moving to his wife and two little kids! So not every molester goes to PITA prison.
