the tie was too uncomforable? that's a terrible excuse - you must not want the job.

i hope you show up and the people interviewing you aren't wearing ties. you'd look really bad then.

it's not that, my shirt's neck is too small. i need to lose weight 😱

no matter though. if it's anyhting like my current company i should fit right in. when i interviewed for my current company i wore a polo, khakis and the dudes who intervieing me wore hawaiian shirts

You are going to wear a suit without a tie to this interview?
🙁

A tip for the future, if your shirt neck is too tight, buy a shirt with a collar 1/2 inch larger.

Oh, and good luck

I've got an interview in 2.5 hours and this thread has been helpful too. Still trying to think of a couple more questions.

For gods sake, make sure your wearing a long sleeve dress shirt.

If you don't wear the tie (you should) button down the corners of your collar anyway.

Most people suggest to not wear cologne since some may find it offensive (and offending the one doing the interview = bad)

As others said, ask a lot of questions. Take it just to the point where your overstaying then stop.

This sometimes works great, but ask the person interviewing about how long they have been there, positions they have held... they usually love to talk about themselves if given the chance.

MAKE AND KEEP EYE CONTACT!

Don't twiddle your thumbs.

If you smoke, do not do it before the interview (I don't hire people that smell like an ashtray).

Try and setup a second interview at the end of your first or ask for an offer. This sounds odd, but if you do it correctly and your interview went well, you can put it in the bag this way.

Good luck and let us know how it went!

Ditto, eye contact and focus.

Also, DO NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS YOU ARE NOT SURE OF THE ANSWER ON!
It is OK to say that you are not sure what the correct answer is! If you push the wrong answer, it makes you look really bad.

Know that from the other side of the table. We will ask leading questions and ask questions that we think you might not know the answer to to see how you will react and answer. If you answer back with BS, that will hurt you more than help. Guessing does not help your score and penalizes more than getting a whole bunch of questions right. 😉

Edit - "I do not know what a Magruder value is. What do you use it for or what purpose does it serve?" That way, you show you want to know, they can show you, and it makes them have to give you more information to why they asked.

well it went well. I didn't need the tie(both interviewers were wearing jeans and a tshirt) i will know by next week if i get called in for a second interview

That's huge. Its always OK to say "I'm not familiar with xxxxx. What do you guys use it for?"

If you start BSing or dancing I can tell, and I'll spend the next 5 minutes making you look like a jackass. Just to confirm the jackassness to be sure.

If you turn out to be the dude we're interviewing today, I'm going to skull fvck you because you're going to eventually necessitate my quitting :|

LOL 😉

Silly.... 😉

Always always always wear a suit and tie to the first interview. ALWAYS. Depending on the situation, you may dress according to the company dress code on the 2nd interview. Use your judgement there.

During the interview, don't just answer questions. You're not a beggar, hat in hand. As they are judging if you are a proper fit for the company, you are also judging if the company is a proper fit for you. This is a long-term decision you do not want to take lightly. Take a notepad and pen with you with prepared questions to ask the interviewer. Compensation, benefits, hours, environment, company culture, etc. Be attentive and engaging. Never lie or exaggerate. Assume the sale.

dude that doesn't mean crap. Your job is to impress upon the interviewers a certain level of professionalism. Wearing a suit and tie to an interview is just about rule number 1 to interviewing. Once you get the job then you can wear your flip-flops and hawian shirt to work. They already have the job and probably don't give a crap what you think about them, unless you are being heavily recruited the ball is in their court.
