Just so I can double check, what to back up:

- Firefox and Thunderbird
- My documents
- My desktop

...am I missing something?

Oh, and also...I'm going to reinstalling windows PRO SP2 that I purchased. I'm swapping mobo, cpu, and RAM. Will this screw with the windows hardware lock thingy? You're allowed 7 changes if i remember correctly.

Some games (like NFS Underground 2) put the saved games under C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data.
WTF? I can't figure out why can't everyone just set it so that the saved games go under the game directory or My Documents.

Anyway, I'd backup the entire C:\Documents and Settings (All Users, Default User, and Your Username) just to be sure.

Actually, all games and apps are on a seperate partition. So, the save games are safe. I think I have everything :)

As far as the motherboard swap goes, you might give THIS a quick read. I recently switched boards and it worked like a charm. Though, I was switching one Nforce board out for another, so the chipset was the same.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. A few weeks ago, I reformatted and reinstalled NFS Undeground (the original) so I could quickly resume my career (about 10 races from the end). The entire NFS game directory under D:\Games\NFS Underground didn't get touched during the reformat since I keep all my games on the D: partition.

Needless to say, I didn't realize the EA asshats put my saved games under C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NFS Underground...., which of course, didn't get backed up.

Yea, I'm going from a nForce 2 to a VIA KT800PRO/VT8237...I'd like the reinstall anyways.

So? My current machine started out as a dual Celeron 466 with IDE drives and it's been through virtually 3 major overhauls and it's now a dual Thunderbird 1.2 on SCSI drives, I've never reinstalled the OS in all that time.

I'm reinstalling my OS. I've got an entirely different chipset going in there. We're talking about Windows here, not Debian.

Nothinman's right, though. If you follow the directions in the link I gave above, you shouldn't need to reinstall anything.

Again, so? It's definately a lot easier with Linux, but it can be done with Windows too.
