Ok.

So let's say I'm your average wirehead guy with everything I could possibly need. And let's say somebody is trying to buy me a christmas gift, anywhere between $200-$1500. Anything specifically COMPUTER RELATED is out. So like a radeon DV and that 2nd processor I need is not an option. One "single" gift would be better than multiple little things.

Any suggestions for cool but useful and thoughtful gadgets / fun guy things?

Unfortunately I'm not really into palmtops or anything like that... The only thing that I can really think of that I wouldn't buy myself would be a nice (like a tag) watch, but the reason I wouldn't buy myself that is because I don't like the idea of wearing around a $1000 watch everyday. I have way too many guy type hobbies (cars, computers, electronics) but all those things I'm obsessive about so no one can buy me gifts because they couldn't possibly get it right. (their words, not mine - personally I really do think it's the thought that counts)

Just curious what sorts of "good guy gifts" anandtechers would come up with.

If they're seriously wanting to dump the cash on ya, have em pick up a Tivo (30+ hours) including the $250 lifetime service agreement. Pick up a big fat drive and upgrade the capacity in your spare time. There are few things as cool as a nice DVR

Tivo's changed my life.

I'll keep it simple.. If I were to be asking this much of a gift from someone for christmas, i'd probably go half way with the 200-1000 :D and ask for about $600 worth of computer parts, GeForce3, new DDR mobo, and 512(or more) of DDR SDRAM.

But that's just me. :)

Hoss - The tivo would be a great idea, except (of course) I've already got a replay.

Yield - Computer stuff is out - I have more than I need, and no one really thinks of that as much of a 'gift', myself included. Of course, I hinted around for months about how cool it would be if certain people took it upon themselves to buy me a nice 17" flatscreen sometime, but when it became clear it wasn't going to happen I went out and bought my own.

Apparently everyone I know hates me, because I'm absolutely impossible to buy anything for, since I have it already...

One of those really nice recliners with massage and heat built in. They have one with a cooler in the arm too. That would be great.

I like the pool table idea too . . . but I would rather have Bubble Hockey.

If someone wanted to spend that much on me, I would get some new front tower speakers and a new center channel.
If I didn't already have a really nice M&K subwoofer, that would also be an option.
Another thing I might ask for is for them to take my car and load it up with some stereo stuff, like an mp3 CD player, some new speakers, etc.

Hell, if I didn't have negative equity on my car, I would ask the person to throw the $1000-$1500 in with me as part of a down payment for a new car! :D

Hehhehe.. you guys are doing pretty good, except that I have most of it. Bought my 5th digital camera a couple months ago, and just finished my MP3 car install... I played the stereo game in college, then sold it off and bought a jeep with the proceeds (just for fun) so while I would'nt mind some new speakers that's sort of a been there done that situation.

I wouldn't want a pool table, but would love a galaga/ms pac man/pinball machine - unfortunately, I'm currently away for 5 months on a work assignment, so "big" gifts don't work. Otherwise a nice 80-120 gal aquarium would be on the top of my list.

Do you live by yourself? I know it sounds a little lame, but I wouldn't mind a set of kickass knives or pots & pans.
Hmmm, what else... a laptop? Digital camcorder? A nice Barbecue grill? Game console + games?

Do you go camping? How about a tent, day packs, Coleman stove, sleeping bags?

Are you into music (playing it)? A new guitar, keyboard, amp, whatever can get expensive real quick.

What about the new Replay that can be connected to a LAN. You can email people shows and if you have more than one you can watch a recording from one Replay on another one.
