Ok 2 quick WTFs!?!?! from the Oscars

Montage #1: Movies that have to be seen on the big sreen... Epics.
Includes: StarWars, Ben Hur, Saving Private Ryan etc... and Marrie Poppins!?!?!?!?!

Montage #2: Movies that challenged us. Cutting edge topics.
Includes: Philadelphia, Down on the Waterfront, etc....and Day After Tomorrow??!?!

I'm assuming that becuase these are both Disney, ABC is owned by Disney, they were shoved in. Total joke.

Addition: and to add to my own thread. Reese Witherspoons acceptance speech made me throwup a little.

I hate them too generally, but I watch for the amazing display of masturbation that these people do for themselves. There were other classic moments, like when Hollywood went gangster rap. Stewart wast the only thing holding the show together. He was spot-on

I think I also saw a clip of "Something's Gotta Give" in Montage #2. That was a huge WTF moment for me.

HA! Missed that one. If it was in there thats freakign classic too.
All I know is "A Spoonful of Medicine" HAS to be experienced on a 30ft IMAX screen with 7.1 THX surround sound to be experienced properly. My poor kids are just missing out on the FULL power of a woman that floats around on a magical umbrella.

Hey Day After Tomorrow was a truly challenging movie. It was a challenge for me to sit through it!

I saw Mary Poppins as a kid, in a theater, when it first came out. I would agree it is more impressive in a theater than at home.

I think this is probably true of all musicals.

I disagree. If I had to watch Jesus Christ Superstar and Hair in a theatre (like my mom made me do at home), there would have been violence in the media.

Somehow I don't think anything could make Grease, or Grease 2 any better on the big screen.

Have you seen Mary Poppins? Doubtful since you didn't even spell it correctly. There is a rooftop dance scene with the chimney sweeps that overlooks a portrait of a smoke shrouded London, surrealist encounter with a sidewalk chalk painting and when you consider how some of the special effects were pretty cutting edge.

The bottom line is that there are more to Epics than laser guns and explosions. I'm not sure I would have included it either, but I can see how somebody might.

That ticked me off - it seemed everytime I flipped back to this 'awards show', they were plugging the superiority of the big screen over home theater. Let's see, pay $20 so my wife and I can watch movie X with a bunch of cell-phone ringing, baby-crying, popcorn-throwing, potentially-odorous, seat-kicking, talking-during-the-movie strangers, can't pause the damn thing to take a short break, pay outrageous prices for some fuggin popcorn and soda ...

A lot of the "epics" were not epics and really look bad even on the big screen. I would say that old B&W movies are the ones that look great on the big screen.

There were a lot of questionable movies in this montage. I've never heard of the one in bold though. 😉

Did anybody catch that Tom Hanks seemed to be really WTF-pi$$ed at Jon Stweard when he was walking up to announce the best directors?

He was mouthing a lot of words that didn't seem very nice.

See, you proved I was right !

(impressive doesn't mean better, something bad will be more impressively bad on a large screen ! Although I don't agree HAIR is bad, the other one, I don't know)

A typo means I didn't see it?

Anyways, where did I mention that Epics need laser guns and explosions? Ben Hur certainly didn't have either of those.

ALL movies are "more impressive" in a theater. That's not an arguement. But some don't HAVE to be seen in a theater to capture their full glory. Mary Poppins is not an epic by any stretch of the imagination. Sure there are "magical" scenes and picturespe footage, but nothing that is lost on a 27" or greater TV at home.

All I gotta say is Crash FTW!

Yeap. Brokeback etc are perfectly fine movies and certainly could have/should have won in other years, but this year was tough, and Crash was certainly the best of the bunch.

HA! Sorry I guess I never saw that either. Shoulda been : On the Waterfront w/ Mr. Brando.
