Heard on the radio that TMZ is reporting the knife was found buried in OJ's backyard by construction workers and turned into a cop. The cop kept the knife all these years. He wanted to have it framed and told another who brought it to light.

That cop should be prosecuted if true.

It doesn't matter - they can't try OJ again and most people think he's guilty anyway so it wouldn't affect his image. I could *almost* understand the construction worker keeping it but the cop? No freaking way.

I don't even know if this is illegal. I mean OJ probably did it but even if this knife proves it 100% he couldn't be tried again.

If this knife proves somebody else did it then this would be quite a serious thing to withhold this evidence.

I guess you might be right - if it wasn't an active crime scene then I guess it wasn't evidence. It was an active investigation though AFAIK...

At this point the knife is worthless. Even if it had DNA evidence any good lawyer would be able to argue that the chain of custody was broken. Who knows how many people handled the knife over these years. Every person that entered that guys house could have touched it.

I can see OJ now saying the knife must have been planted there on his property.

It's beyond worthless. No prosecutor that is honest is going ot use it to go after OJ. They should go after the officer that had it.

Not buying it. It's pretty implausible that a cop would steal a murder weapon as a trophy because it's a worthless trophy. It can't be sold or authenticated, you could take a steak knife and pretend it's the OJ weapon and nobody could prove otherwise. But even more than that I think it highly unlikely that even OJ would bury the knife in his own yard. Do you even comprehend the level of brain-dead that requires? Wipe it off and throw it in a pond, or the tar pits or toss it in a garbage can. Or drive up Mullholland and bury it in the mountains. WTF buries their own knife in their own yard where it would implicate them if found? I've disposed of a lot of murder weapons and never once did I hide it in my own yard and ummmm, nevermind, I've said too much.

Yeah it don't really make sense. I'd be more apt to believe it was buried there by someone, either to frame him (I don't really think so though) our just to stir up shit.

Some people like "collectibles" for their own satisfaction, not to show off or sell.
Some people are not terribly rational.

Why take it?
"I like knives that are serrated, have a brownish handle, have the number 8 stamped somewhere on them, and were owned by someone who is commonly known by two initials. Those are definitely the best knives to have."
