Gas has been dropping near my house and work. Down to $1.40 at the station by house...was at $1.53 last week. Down to a $1.49 at the Kroger gas station near my job...was at $1.59 last week.

Yeah my locals need to hear the info too. 1.70 a gallon. They are reapin in the profits all they can.

Its dropping like a rock here to.

Its simply because of all that cheap Iraqui crude we are pumping due to our war for oil.

Ayup...it's down 25% but gas here is down about 10% at most places. Some are as high as they've been all year.

Your local gas station is not making big profits. Remember too that he is selling fuel he already bought. Gas stations have to sell that first. Besides, it is not like it's out of the ground one day and in your car the next. Hopefully this trend will continue. It may as long as the war goes smoothly. It easily could go back up though.

Not entirely true, last week I went into a station and got ready to pump. They raised theprice between the time I showed up and started to pay. No fuel truck present.

Price went up 3 cents also that evening, not truck had arrived according to the clerk. They just received a phone call asking what the price was accross the street and told to raise it within 1 cent of the competition.

I completely agree that price fixing happens. I was really thinking of those who believe that gas stations get some huge hidden markup on gas. If you suppose that 5 cents on a gallon is due to this kind of thing, that is not much compaired to taxes etc. I happen to know a couple of guys who own stations, and the total profits are not that great. They do well enough, but are not driving the expensive cars they would like to have.

They make their money on the convenience store portion (cigarettes, milk, soft drinks, beer, etc.)
